VPI Classic and ZYX Airy 3 X SB...good match?
One thing that concerns me about test records, is whether they can be relied upon? What if on test tracks, groove damage is eventually created? Then, is it an accurate means to judge?Akin to the old saying (or something like it) "If a Bear farts i...
What oil for VPI HW19 turntable?
I don't leave cotton from a Q-Tip laying inside the Bearing Well! And if one, or two microscopic strands of cotton did get left behind, please tell me what harm it will cause? I'll answer that question for you, absolutely none at all! Whatever one...
What oil for VPI HW19 turntable?
VPI no doubt still sells the conventional bearing oil lube that was used for the HW-19. Mike at VPI, being the good guy he is also recommended that Mobil 1 would be a good substitute as well. I don't think one would have any problem with the multi...
How many rotations are correct, VPI HW19 MkIV?
Are you folks taking into account, the effect the Motor itself has on the Platter? If you've ever rotated just the Motor Pulley on these AC Synchonous Motors, you will feel cogging, an effect from the magnets on the stator of the motor (I think I ...
Platter upgrade for VPI MkIV?
The HW-19 is probably the most "tweakable" Table VPI ever made. A bit unsure what Platter you have, is it Lead Filled with a Cork Ring underneath? With 3 Adjustment Pins by the Spindle? The Classic Platter would most likely sound different, but per...
VPI Classic and ZYX Airy 3 X SB...good match?
I'm sort of sorry for my last post, because it wasn't a productive one. Most of this has been debated quite at length ad nauseum in the past, and it actually does little good to rehash this topic again. The info we have from Mehran, of course diffe...
VPI Classic and ZYX Airy 3 X SB...good match?
The information that seems to be provided, is full of holes.Firstly, the 4D was not the first ZYX Cartridge that was de-nuded, it was the Atmos.Whether you wish to believe these statments made, is up to you, to buy the 4D at almost twice the price...
Clavis Soundsmith retip
I myself didn't find Mr J. Carr's response offensive, but more informative. he mentioned what one's options are, and made us aware that it seems regardless of age, you don't have a paperweight, that there are options. I believe it would be nice if...
VPI Classic and ZYX Airy 3 X SB...good match?
I'll concur, that my Airy 3X SB does rock very very nicely, as it also does with other genre's of music. While I can assume there is better out there to be had, the Airy 3X never gives you any impression that something is missing, or not being done...
VPI SDS question
As I understand it, if there are issues with the SDS, and the Classic, Harry W. explained that it is a Run Capacitor issue, not the motor, or SDS. A simple Run Cap Swap solves the issue, and if you contact VPI, I'm sure they will send you free, th...
Need some guidance
As the boys here will concur, getting into vinyl can be a very expensive conquest. Are you sure you are willing to dive headfirst? Lots of very smart gentlemen here (who have helped me over the years), and will help you from Cartridge Selection, S...
benz micro mc3 set up question
Dear Ct0517,I'm not so sure that a tight cantilever suspension would be detrimental, but in another forum, somebody made a claim about all cartridges, and a possible issue. This is of course some food for thought, I am unsure that it is totally fa...
benz micro mc3 set up question
Before sending for re-tipping, perhaps check a few other things first. Have you done a really good visual inspection of the Stylus to insure that it is indeed clean? If not, search the archives, and read Doug Deacon's use of the MrClean Magic Erase...
AR Refinish
That, or perhaps if you have a Guitar Luthier in your area? The myriad of finishes could be as simple, or as complex as your wildest dreams. Candy's, Tints, Sunbursts, etc. Luthiers usually have good experience working-finishing woods. Mark
LP Cleaning brush
Gentlemen, Curious about the Walker Brushes, are they just one-way directional, ala vintage Discwasher Brush, or can one scrub in both directions without a need to rotate the Brush? Also, are the Pads replaceable, like Disc Doctor/Mo Fi Brush Pads?...
