Thanks to everyone for their help thus far.  There is progress.  I just received a PayPal credit to cover return shipping to the manufacturer.  The note from the seller on the PayPal transaction says that this is a partial refund to cover shipping...

Hopefully some of the vendors that fall into the “improvement needed” category will read this thread and learn something.  But on the other hand why would they, it’s easier just to trudge along in their set ways and continue to complain about it.
