Audiogon members poor packing and shipping damage
In the case of audiogon, where delicate items costing thousands of dollars or more are shipped regularly, its even more important than in many cases that things be done right.A $10000 amp or pair of speakers is too costly and risky for buyer and s...
What stereo amp sounds better than digital monos?
Good luck. Mccormack is a very reasonable choice. My strategy is always to listen a lot and listen to the best whenever possible, then buy what I can afford.

IT brings tears to my chimp-like eyes to see Bobby and a Merlin critic seeming to have fun together.....
More power for better sound at low volumes?
Dover, yes i know what you mean.

Yes, me to in regards to expensive amps like boulder. I would still recommend giving them a listen. I have not heard them on many systems but the struck me as unique sounding and possibly quite good, a useful reference. You might then be able to f...

Equipment should be packaged to ensure safe shipping. Not all who sell are professionals though so, mistakes can happen more often than otherwise. Its a risk. Best for the buyer to confirm details of how gear will be shipped with the seller before...
Ohm Walsh Microtall or Vandersteen 1C
I can only speak for the OHMs but I think they are hard to beat for prog/rock/metal, which constitutes a major portion of my listening as well, especially with the right amp. That kind of music is perhaps the biggest reason I am where I am today.T...

Well, I'd leave it up to Mt to defend his style if he sees a need. I'm merely defending the right to comment as one sees fit.FWIW, Bobby, I think you were quite civil in your response!

Anyone who has been around at all knows that some things are real and some are more just marketing. Its important to be able to determine how much of each in each case.THe "hook line and sinker" marketing focused comment provided some initial bala...
frequency range for instrument vs speaker
I'm no expert but I gather that it is believed most likely the undertones or combination tones, when they exist, are created by our human hearing apparatus. IN that case the speakers do not have to produce the undertone frequency, our ears do that...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
"Cranking" was a big part of the break-in process for me with my 5S3s. Any break in possible is a good thing though I would say.
The Problem with Synergistic Research
I feel sorry for myself sometimes that I can't always get what I want, then I throw the switch and end up being thankful for what I have (usually). It happens often when I watch "House Hunters" on HGTV and realize I probably cannot afford that gorg...
frequency range for instrument vs speaker
FRogman,I think we are in agreement save perhaps the technical details. As I understand it currently from very limited reading on the topic, as long as the recording captures all the real harmonics produced by the instruments accurately, and the sy...
Is a vinyl rig only worth it for oldies?
I have a few CDs of remastered hits from the 30s and 40's. THese are some of my favorite recordings to listen to these days. I grew up in the 60's-70's rock era when listening to most music that pre-dated The Beatles was not "cool". Being the geek...
