Is a vinyl rig only worth it for oldies? Atmasphere is right. CD Redbook format has specifications that limit what is possible whereas vinyl does not.Practically the issue is more how significant are the CD redbook limits and how often are the capabilities of vinyl recordings realized in...
Best recorded rock song ? "Anesthetize" and "Arriving Somewhere But Not Here" by Porcupine Tree are up there I would say. So many others... Best? I try to list them as I come across them again.
Best recorded rock song ? That's a tough one! There are so many.Avalon by ROxy Music certainly is up there.GOtta think about it some....
More power for better sound at low volumes? Mike60,I would tend to agree with your assessment.Lower efficiency often goes in hand with deeper bass extension. The Fletcher-Munson Effect that ALmarg referenced comes into play at lower volumes still which negates that aspect of the design some...
Where do you go after a Dynaudio C1 ? YEs, Focal is another viable option I thought of and agree with Mike60's assessment.
A Capital Audiofest 2012 thread I went two years ago Sunday only. Things were in full swing through 2-3 in the afternoon then things were winding down as I left. Got there too late for the morning "swap" event, which sounds neat. May try to make that this year. There were a numb...

Is a vinyl rig only worth it for oldies? I'm with LCD.Music trumps format for me every time because I am first a music lover and have fine tuned both my vinyl and digital rigs to enable this. I am currently hesitant to change a thing in my system because dare I say it it meets my expecta...
How many with analog rigs only? I did until I managed to get my digital up to snuff a couple years back after fine tuning my vinyl rig and then added a music server as well. I have a lot of good music on vinyl only so I would listen to it more if I had the time to deal with play...
Where do you go after a Dynaudio C1 ? I know a dealer that offers Avalon and Dynaudio as two complementary top lines in terms of sound. The Dynaudio C1s did have a more "relaxed" sound, the Avalons not so much. I'd give them a listen based on what you describe.
Is a vinyl rig only worth it for oldies? "try the decemberists "the king is dead" album from 2011. its a stunning piece of vinyl."The CD is as well.
Wireless router "contamination" of sound? I would not place my audio gear physically close to any typical household computer or router due to potential for RFI type digital noise as Al alluded to. I tend to avoid wired connections as well just as a precaution.Otherwise Wifi and other radi...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em? Rbf,For rock/prog/metal music at louder, real life type volumes, clipping is quite common with many amp/speaker combos. It comes into play gradually as volume goes up. If it is noticeable with the Nova/OHM combo, there are two possible solutions. ...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em? Rbf,In general, listen for any audible signs of distortion or breakup usually due to amp clipping. When an amp clips, distortion will start to become audible during louder musical peaks and upping the volume further results in more distortion than... |
