Single driver speakers without the pitfalls?
"Or is it that peoples hearing is so different from person to person and that what one likes another finds unpleasant?"Much like most choices in life. Since no speaker is "perfect" you have to choose your distortions and limitations that float one...

I've spent more money on my stuff than most people would probably sanction. So I'm a freak, but maybe not a super freak. :-) It sounds just the way I want it to. If/when it doesn't, I attempt to address the issue. But I am a cheap bastard at heart...
Single driver speakers without the pitfalls?
One of teh reasons I like the OHM Walsh CLS speakers so much is that the driver is above the cabinet firing vertically for the low end and wave bending to emit sound horizontally at the higher frequencies. The Walsh operating principle seem to dis...
Best Bat out of Hell recording
What Marty said.Have not heard a really good BOOH ever, vinyl or CD. Maybe there is a miracle digital remastering out there I have not heard. Dunno. The sound quality on teh limited Rundgren material I am familiar with in general is some of the wo...
Do I really need a preamp?
Any input impedance is "compatible" ie it will work. Its more a question of how well. The 10X rule is commonly cited. That's a reasonable approach, the challenge being that impedance can vary widely at different frequencies and a single output imp...

THe Oakland A's and Kansas City Royals can't really afford to play in the Big Leagues with the Yankees, Red Sox, etc. but still have done pretty well of late. :^)The NFL has a salary cap to help keep their expenses down. The best teams still play ...
Would vinyl even be invented today?
"Works for HDTV"How many guys who think digital is inherently inferior are willing to give up their HD TVs and go back to the old analog tube crap that preceeded it?I hooked an antenna up to my old portable analog TV with one of those inexpensive ...
Single driver speakers without the pitfalls?
Take a look at This primer on how speakers work. It helps me to actually visualize why conventional full range pistonic drivers might not be such a great idea from a distortion perspective. Bending wave Walsh drivers are much better suited IMHO. ...

"He is an angry, bitter man, who is saddened by the fact that he cannot afford to play in the big leagues."Thanks. Now I feel a whole lot better. :^)
Would vinyl even be invented today?
I think it a bit delusional to believe there is ANYTHING perfect about vinyl record playback, but it does not really matter as long as one likes the way things sound.BTW, which part of the record is more perfect, the beginning or the end? They are...

The interesting thing about wires is its hard to make one that does not work at all so its an easy game to get into for sure. The next wires I try will probably be ones used in pro studios. If I am half the audiophile I think I am, those should be ...
Uneven speaker cable lengths?
Equal lengths is the safe bet for same performance l and r.Shorter is always better though. Is more balanced better? It has advantage of being balanced. You could try both and see or if not possible, just choose and be done.
Uneven speaker cable lengths?
Probably won't make a noticeable difference but certainly could so the safe bet is to just keep them equal.
Would vinyl even be invented today?
It's 100 year old technology that peaked over 20 years ago already.NEw records are being made but prices are high and quality control questionable. Nothing major new in site, though prices for new records and capable players continue to go up and ...
