DAC as an upgrade
No set budget at present. All options open.
Transistor Preamp that sounds like a Tube Preamp?
Maybe. Though I am very interested, I haven't heard any top notch horn designs in quite a while. We're certainly talking about two radically different speaker designs being applied to similar ends in similar rooms.

Cerrot,Thanks for the explanation. Very helpful. So my next question is what are some good upsampling DACs out there these days to consider as an upgrade to whats on-board the Denon and what do they sound like, if possible to explain?
DAC as an upgrade
Tpsonic,Thanks.Any DAC with a coaxial Digital input will work with any source with digital coax out then? Any exceptions to look out for?

I was reading this about the Shino Latours and noticed I have my Ohm 5's set up in a very similar shaped room for a very similar listening configuration.http://www.sixmoons.com/industryfeatures/forbidden/forbidden_5.htmlThe Shindos look great and ...
Silky and soft highs II: CD reference tests
I've recently revisited several CD recordings in the Jascha Heifitz Collection series on RCA Vistor Gold Seal. I must say that these are some absolutely striking recordings both in terms of sonics and performance, among the best I have heard recen...

Fla,If cash is in short supply, try a somewhat unconventional approach building a system around a pair of newer Ohm Walsh speakers.www.ohmspeakers.com

Use of compression will vary from recording to recording. In general, more extreme use of compression is more common in rock/pop CD recordings. If you have not been to a live symphonic concert recently, go to one if you can as a reference. It can ...

Transistor Preamp that sounds like a Tube Preamp?
Bloom means whatever one wants I suppose. Never used the term before so I'm guessing. To me it would seem to go with the nature of some tube systems I've heard to make certain fundamental elements of the music comprising the rhythm and flow more pr...
Transistor Preamp that sounds like a Tube Preamp?
Is "bloom" necessarily an attribute of better tube equipment? With the best tube system I've heard recently in terms of $$$$s by a longshot (VTL and VAC), I did not hear an overt amount of tube warmth or "bloom", just a touch of warmth and overall ...

Well, the tube emulation outputs on my cheap, old Carver pre-amp does a lot of this on my system, save the "bloom" part, I'd say.
Classe DR-6 or Adcom GFP-750
I'd surely take Classe over Adcom from what I've heard over the years for reasons mentioned above.
