Connecting my laptop to my home audio...
What your doing works but is usually limited by the limited fidelity of most desktop sound cards. For CDs, I would also recommend the increasingly popular USB DAC approach for best sound. For certain networked music servers and internet sources (ra...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Terrapin Station - Grateful Dead...the title track is really somethingSing to Me Mr. C - Perry Como...wonderful RCA Victor Living Stereo recording from yesteryear. Wonderful sound! Vocals and harmonies that simply shimmer! They don't make 'em like...

2001 A Space Odyssey.Forrest Gump was good too.
Pioneer sx-636 vintage reciever?
If its in good working order, its a nice find at $40. Your NAD is probably better sounding overall though.
Most achingly-beautiful music
Several years back on this thread, someone mentioned "Terrapin Station" by the Grateful Dead.I happened to be re-visting this work for the first time in a while. It had caught my attention years ago and I hear why. It is a most interesting piece. ...
Any Audiophile recording of The Planets?
Dutoit-OSM Penguin Classics version on CD is "heavenly".I can listen to it over and over. Realistic sound quality and wonderful performance. It has it all power, majesty, delicacy, beauty ...a truly great demo recording.

When is digital going to get the soul of music?
" I suggest that everyone keep an open mind on digital and get ready for high-res digital downloads"Hard to do when someone is convinced the medium is inherently flawed, which it isn't......Personally, I'm ready to move forward and lay my fond mem...
When is digital going to get the soul of music?
There is nothing inherently problematic or wrong with digital today, even in the cases of CD and broadband internet. There are increasingly more cases everyday where it is done right rather than wrong at a cost most can afford. Also, digital proce...
My speakers don't "dissapear"
"stereo and tv is diagonally set up"From your description, short of a defect in speaker wiring or such (doubtful) this may be working against you the most compared to the norm. Also, what's the distance between the speakers and the walls?Burn in ti...
recommend full featured preamps?
"I think their impedence curve does dip down to almost 3 ohms at one point."That's probably a red flag with most any tube amp. What is the amps rated output in 8, 4 and 2 ohms? If it does not double each time or come close, that could well account ...
Using bi-wire cables on non-biwirable speakers
I've heard some say running multiple similar cables between a single amp and speaker connection can make a big difference in sound (for the better). Don't some cable manufacturers like Nordost use a parallel multipath conductor design in their hig...
My speakers don't "dissapear"
That combo should disappear nicely. I've heard it happen impressively with my own ears with the 400xi and Focal Profile series and decent Audioquest cables. Are the speakers too close to the rear or side walls perhaps? Also, what kind of ICs and sp...
Emerald Physics and My System
The EPs are a very interesting and unique design. I would expect good things. I'd be curious to know your impressions once you get a flavor.
recommend full featured preamps?
Lloydc,What are the speakers in your system?Often, the problem you describe with bass at low levels can be due to a mismatch between amp and speakers, especially with tube amps and lower efficiency speakers that have a more complex load to handle....
