IMHO, not enough gain in my Phono stage One effective, easy, and inexpensive solution for the different level issue between phono and CD is to use RCA phono attenuator plugs in line with the higher level CD IC to lower that level more to the level of the phono. I've used Harrison Labs 12...
In case you haven't seen the new Maggie? They remind me a bit of those little mylar speakers with sub that some of the mini systems you used to see at Brookstone employed.
Keeping Hifi Equipment For Sentimental Values Yes, but only if it also still sounds good as well.I did a custom rebuild of my old Ohm L's that I bought 30 years ago in college (see my system listing). They were the first speaks I owned that I liked enough to hold onto for a long time, and I w...
In case you haven't seen the new Maggie? No, but it may well broaden the appeal of the line to those who like the sound but cannot accommodate the larger Maggies properly, which would include me. I've owned Maggies and would consider a Maggie satellite/sub system in a heartbeat as a way ...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em? I heard about John Potis passing here a while back. There is a thread here on A'gon regarding it.John Potis answered email questions I had about amps for the OHMs also. He was very helpful and very enthusiastic....seemed like a really good guy.
Anybody listen to Ohm Walsh speaker w/digital amp? "yet the Trio's ability to deliver more current seems a likely reason for achieving that effortless sound I'm hearing .. yes?!"Absolutely yes.
Quad ESL owners question I liked the big Quads but went with OHMs for almost 1/3 the cost. No regrets.
My experience with ATC SCM 12 You may well like the Triangles based on your stated preferences. They are more in the direction you indicate relative to Dynaudios. I have both Triangles and Dyns in my house.
Anybody listen to Ohm Walsh speaker w/digital amp? Jmelvin,I've found only larger and much more expensive speakers can deliver all the goods as effortlessly as the OHMs when fed lots of good clean power and current.Cheers + enjoy!
Circuit City is Closing, Liquidating IT hard for me to have any sympathy for Circuit City. For many years, they have been a poster-child of the mediocrity that plagues so many things these days from what I saw. I don't think they were that way when they started.
Phono Stage Hum The phono pre-amp seems to be the suffering piece.Hopefully it is just external magnetic fields that can be taken out of the equation (like kryptonite with SUperman) rather than some inherent problem with the piece itself.Good luck.
What piece of music can you play over & over? "Cities" - The Moody Blues (nice clean harpsicord accompaniment particularly on remastered CD versions BTW)and the better known flip side of the single, "Nights in White Satin", also.
MIT cables and super tweeters DRjoe,A lot of time with the relatively cheapo MITs in my system. As I said, I like them a lot and can recommend them to others.I have no doubt the high end stuff is even better. When I read some of their literature, some of it made sense to me and ...
Jitter reduction, best device? I'd be skeptical of any device, like PCs, not specifically designed for good sound. DACs like the benchmark and others that re-clock during upsampling would seem to be the way to go when the source is a generic computer. From the sound of it in my ... |
