Outstanding brands?
I think the innovative technology and resulting sound of the MBLs alone makes the brand distinctive and outstanding in certain ways that of course will not appeal to all. My only qualm is that this stuff is very expensive and beyond the means of e...

"A plugged guitar string should not go wall to wall, it should emanate from some point within the soundstage with high precision "The MBL 111s I heard did this exceptionally well with all instruments in a very deep as well as wide soundstage. Simi...

How about the Bendix equivalent for $50?Is it worth $50? What are the improvements?
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
Check out the OHM site where they list upgrade options for old Walsh speakers to see which models can be upgraded to 100 S3. I think the upgrade itself is around $800. Then, you might be able to pick up a pair of older OHMs for around $200 that yo...
How is it ? that a tuner smokes the table ???
"What is also surprising to me is the signal on vynal is probably more direct , than a signal passing thru the airwith all the interferences, not to mention all the processing, and reprocessing to analogy and ranes as thehighest quality source I k...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
Call Ohm and see if they still have any refurbished Super Walsh 2 S3s available, similar to those in my system. These are the nice vintage pyramid shaped cabinets with the 100 series 3 drivers and usually go for around $1300 when available.
How is it ? that a tuner smokes the table ???
I don't think its unusual for a tuner to sound "intimate" as you describe. With good source material at the station, dynamics can be pretty good as well. I could relate similar experiences using Tandberg, Carver, and other tuners with a good sourc...
New vs. old DACs - opinions?
I think the basic issue is a clock is needed to convert the bits to analog at the right time otherwise the result is jitter and this typically occurs at the other end of the wire from the DAC, back at the source which feeds the DAC. Both clock and...
Vintage amps - Carver, Krell
For high watts/high current, if you could swing it, I would look at newer Class D amps for best sound and cost effectiveness. Wyred 4 Sound has some relatively low cost units that has attracted attention. The Musical Fidelity Q#CR in my system cost...

"Not MBL to my ears, I don't like a guitar string plucked coming at me like a Mack truck in size."I've heard this criticism of MBL before. Having heard MBL 111s at least, I'm not sure I understand it. Is it more attributed to 101s and their partic...
Help/Advice Choosing SS integrated
One important thing to consider is the speakers you are driving. Some integrateds, including some Mc models out there, do not deliver high current compared to separates as is needed for balanced sound with speakers where impedance varies significa...
matching speaker to room size?
if you like the C2s, check out their website (www.ohmspeakers.com) for available upgrades that can bring them up to date with other newer speaker technologies. If you like the OHM sound, for that room, you might also consider either Ohm 100 series ...
Advice on a nice integrated is needed
Strickly my opinion nay advice FWIW:I'd toss the VAC Phi Beta into the category of high class integrateds as well. Its the best looking one at least IMHO.The JRDG seems to have a sterling reputation as well. The Emitter seems to be the most ground ...
