has anyone heard both Bel Canto and W4S amps?
I'm guessing more of a sideways move, at least if used with a SS pre-amp. The 60K input impedance of the Wyred compared to 10K on that particular Bel Canto unit might benefit if you are using a tube pre-amp.
Another "help me pick speakers" thread
Ron,The area where the less than optimal tube amp matching with the OHMs would likely evidence itself be in the bass levels and perhaps also correspondingly unnatural brightness, the things you describe. That could be part of what you are hearing....
External hard drives and sound quality
Herman,I have some evidence to support my "hypothesis".I have used internal, external USB, and wireless NAS storage and I have heard no differences. Nor do I hear a difference having used three different computers as music servers.I do hear differ...
External hard drives and sound quality
Coverto,Regarding wireless (NAS) drives, I tried one prior to my current external USB drives (and after using the internal disk drive prior to it filling up) and dumped it. It had nothing to do with sound quality, more that it was slow and unrelia...
ICE Amps for classical music?
"So, unless you in flute music or country music or pop and wish to avoid listener fatigue - you better pay more attention to peaks - equally or more as you pay attention to other attributes of your equipment. "I'd agree with that except that all k...
External hard drives and sound quality
Herman,Well, I am what I say. And someone actually pays me pretty well to be what I am. So there!I would adapt your position except the problem is then we would both be wrong. You are free to stay clear of external drives if you prefer, but I will ...
External hard drives and sound quality
"Are you a hardware and software engineer well versed in this technology?"As a matter of fact I am.I would not say it is not possible for the integrated computer and hardware software as a whole to have some effect on resulting sound in certain ca...
External hard drives and sound quality
Larry_s is correct.People can believe what they want but there is no technical basis for it. If you hear something different it is either a placebo effect or something other than the hard disk being external versus internal is responsible for it.T...
ICE Amps for classical music?
I have emergency door lock keys that sit on top of the frame of each door with such a lock on it in my house.Despite sitting on a thinly carpeted concrete foundation, these keys will without fail vibrate off the frame and fall to the floor a few m...
Is Hi-fi getting more expensive?
"Is Hi-fi getting more expensive?"Perhaps as viewed through this, the "high end" audio site, but not overall in general. The high end in western culture is just that, the extreme portion that will tend to become even more extreme over time. But the ...

I never thought about it before but a truly state of the art system should be able to knock a house down (I suppose)!Oh, well, back to the drawing board....

what was your wedding song?
Embarrassing. No that is not the name, that is what it sort of is.Let's just say it was a signature #1 80's power ballad from a one hit wonder Canadian rock group circa 1989. A good tune for what it is but still a bit embarrassing.
Best Hard Drive and Enclosure for Music Server
I'm running 2 Seagate USB drives, one is 1.5 Tb (main) and the other 2 Tb (backup). Total cost: about $300 or so.They are in a small 12X12 room with my other equipment ( I need to post some updated pictures), attached to my laptop running Windows ...
Low Volumes
A good quality dynamic range compression device (like the old home dbx units or perhaps even newer digital solutions) might be helpful in cases where music has wide dynamic swings, like orchestral music, yet the volume must stay low.
