Disappointing Elton John CDs?
"Makes the recording sound like a broadband noise generator not even slightly resembling music.'It would surprise me if this were the case with the EJ CDs. Remasters are most likely louder overall but are in general not distorted unless recorded t...
Disappointing Elton John CDs?
the original masters are pretty good. surprising the remasters aren't also, but a lot of newer remasters are remastered to be louder than original. some underpowered systems may have trouble getting the most out of them. also many just flat out do...
What is your favorite guitar solo of all time?
robert fripp's lead on Starless is a great one.

Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
"I don't know why ohm did not stick to the old pyramid designs,"Cost control pretty much I think. The good news is there are lots of these cabinets around that can be fitted with the latest and greatest drivers.I really like having the casters on t...
What makes a Cd player a Great cd player
Yes, the ring dac architecture for applying dither from what I have read strikes me as a very practical way to achieve higher resolution yet retain a smooth response and full dynamic range. When I've heard the DCS gear, what my ears heard was cons...

What makes a Cd player a Great cd player
Wow, didn't realize the DCS DAC architecture could be had for that price! I'd jump on that deal if the Arcam sounds anything like the DCS gear I have heard!
room placement question
You might want to consider listening more near field if possible in order to avoid undesirable room effects. Small monitors would be a ggod fit for that.Or the other way to go for a wide variety of potential listening locations would be with omnid...
Triangle Heliade ES
I have not heard this one but am very fond of the Triangle line in general. They are certainly quite capable of doing any kind of music. Whether they or any speaker do it in a manner that is in alignment with a particular listener's taste can only...
External hard drives and sound quality
BTW, I do think it is a good idea to use an external hard drive for music files for various practical reasons. For one thing it offloads the file access from the internal drive which is where OS and other files needed for basic computer operation r...
Why not horns?
" The only conceptual problem I have with omnis is the large distance from sidewalls required to avoid a detrimental early sidewall reflection."I've found the OHM Walsh pseudo-omni's actually work surprisingly well only a foot or two out from the ...
Why not horns?
I think that the potential for dynamics is the main attraction of horns to most, including myself, all other things aside. Plus I do think they are cool looking.
