Immersive Audio and How to Achieve It
My second system is a traditional 5.1 surround sound.  It wouldn’t meet the criteria for immersive by today’s standards, I guess.  I would like to experiment with a true Atmos setup.  However I have a drop ceiling and I just can’t see using ceilin...
How serious are you?
As John Lennon supposedly said, Life is what happens when you are making other plans.   @asvjerry    As a non Roon user, I think I get the jist of your post, but can you explain the situation for me?
How serious are you?
Let’s just say that anyone who spends time on an audiophile web site is pretty serious.  We have already estimated on a different thread that percentage of the general public that cares about audiophilia is under one percent, probably a few hundre...
Ruminations On CD Players
A lot of over simplified cliches going on here. Let’s look at a few.   1) streaming is great because it facilitates exploration of new music, and people that listen to the same stuff all the time are dinosaurs. Well, streaming does make it easi...
As A Youngster, What Unit Puqued Your Interest In All This?
Is it possible to edit the thread title?  There is plenty of gear that I owned in my much younger days that would make me puque if I had to listen to today
playing "top-damaged" CDs ?
Worst I ever had was a Rega Apollo.  It would reject about a third of the discs fed to it that would play fine on other players.  I couldn’t get a dealer to take if off my hands after a few of them demoed it.  I finally donated it to a charity shop
Systems comparison
How about a nice CD player?  But seriously folks….I don’t know accustat, but an ARC pre amp sounds pretty nice.  Did the OP just switching pre amps between the systems to see what changes?
What's your experience with Channel Separation?
A lot of this reminds me of medical studies.  The baseline chance of developing a certain disease might be one in a million, but if you take Drug X for cholesterol then it might go to 2 in a million.  The media makes breathless proclamations that ...
Ruminations On CD Players
The OP didn’t mention SACD, but I think the Denon flagship CD/SACD is in his price range.  I had just pulled an earlier version out of storage after several years and was pleasantly reminded of how good it is
Music exposure observation
The OP seems to be stating that the more work that is required to get obtain a playing of pre recorded music, the more serious the effort on the part of the listener. Certainly vinylistas have long argued this.  The work involved with setting up ...
playing "top-damaged" CDs ?
I have told a story here a few times, but back in the days when cars had CD players I had carried a few into the garage and one fell out of the jewel case unbeknownst and lay in my garage floor under a pile of winter slush.  A few months later the...
Ruminations On CD Players
Other posters have made the same points, but my two cents: 1) The DAC is the main determinant of the sound. Transports matter, but imo the DAC/transport ratio is 80/20 in terms of ultimate SQ. I have had good DACs make average transports sound be...
I have perfected my network for the nth time
@markprice   +1   I could be cruel and mention that the one tweak the OP doesn’t mention is getting his OCD medication dose adjusted properly, but I won’t go there.   This site gets a lot of people who are new to streaming and are afraid of pot...
Who has the Sickness, the Phile or the Non-phile?
I have had a few people into my room to hear the main system and they ooh and ah.  Inevitably they want to know it costs and then they roll their eyes and tell me they will stick with their 10 year old Apple Ear Buds.  Most of these people are pro...
Classical music thread welcoming your suggestions and why...
Ogden was my favorite Schumann Piano Concerto recording, with Paavo Berglund conducting.  The perfectly capture the rhapsodic nature of that piece
