would the Sony SCD 5400 Ex make a good transport?
I use my 5400 as a transport mainly for SACD.  My Bryston DAC 3 has 4 HDMI inputs and I have 2 of them connected to the Sony and an Oppo 105.  Both machines export DSD over HDMI.  I primarily use the Oppo for this since I lost the Sony remote but ...

Would I benefit with Roon?
@mazian   I too need a better system from cataloging classical albums.  I use a Melco N100 NAS and 2 Cambridge Audio CXN2 streamers in my house.  The CA streaming app is an improvement over other apps but I still wind up with multiple listings fo...
A collection of Henry Cowell's "Hymn and Fuguing Tunes"
Did you try the usual suspects-discogs, ebay, etc?
Reel to Reel
About 15 years ago my brother in laws mother died.  She had been a hoarder and amongst the Aladdin’s cave of treasures in the home was an R2R from her deceased husband that was at least 40 years old and had been in the attic for decades.  I forgot...
When Was The Audio Golden Age?
@mflaten  you have described what most people would give as the answer.  A time of innovation, new products, and while your post doesn’t address it, a consumer audience that was motivated.   Do you think that from a purely sonic perspective that...
When Was The Audio Golden Age?
There might be more total listeners for the higher quality sq than in previous years, but in the past it seemed like more people prioritized having a mid Fi system or better.  While there are exceptions, the younger generations simply don’t priori...
When Was The Audio Golden Age?
Addendum  I googled TAS to try to get a circulation number.  There was a retrospective from HP in which he mentions that by the third issue their circulation was up to 1500 but nothing else.
When Was The Audio Golden Age?
I didn’t start reading Audio magazines until the early 2000s so I can’t comment as to what their contribution was in the historical sense. I also gave up on TAS when they became a shill for MQA but that is another story . And lately I’ve stopped b...
When Was The Audio Golden Age?
The last 2 posts have been especially thoughtful.  They both emphasize the paradox that while the the access to music, and the sheer skill in playing it back, has never been higher; yet the general interest in sound quality amongst the general pub...
Technics Turntables...really???
+1 @mke246      I love the speed stability of my 1200
When Was The Audio Golden Age?
I was graduating University of Michigan in 1980 when a friend got a job as a salesman in a high end audio store.  I remember a wall stretching to the ceiling filled with McIntosh components.  He let me bring a few records in and listen for a few h...
It's the Cicadas!
@celtic66    I haven’t been to Springfield in 30 years.  Took my kids for the obligatory Lincoln Home visit and the tour of the Frank Lloyd Wright home with bowling alley in the basement.  We stayed at a Holiday Inn that was filled with bikers. ...
When Was The Audio Golden Age?
@tylermunns     In the sixties people were happy with AM transistor radios and jukeboxes.  I remember car radios being blasted for all they were worth.  Idiots that can’t appreciate how to reproduce music properly, or are interested in using mus...
Classical Music for Aficionados
@rvpiano    I raised the one sub issue in reference to your current problem with your Tritons.  My understanding was that you currently had the enclosed sub working in one speaker only.  My point was that if systems are generally well served wit...
