Auditioning Used Equipment - Am I crazy ?
I think it would be reasonable for the dealer to charge a fee for the audition, which would count toward the purchase price if you decide to buy.  20 years ago I would have thought that to have been absurd, but times have changed
Tidal removing all MQA
I also have to feel sorry for people who bought MQA DACs primarily so they could get these tracks from Tidal
Tidal removing all MQA
With MQA being sold to Lenbrook, I wonder why this is happening?   I don’t care much for MQA , but it also shows the downside of streaming.  If you liked the MQA versions you just loss access to them
Starting Over and I need your help
I never heard of the amp.  Googling reveals a tube amp retailing for $300.  I would have trouble believing that can drive anything.   Get a decent integrated amp with at least 60 wpc.  You might want to go solid state.  I suspect your whole syste...
Does it have to sound good for you to like it?
I have plenty of Classical recordings that I listen to that sound less than immaculate.  I subscribe to Pristine Audio streaming service and most of their catalog is the pre stereo era
Apple Music streaming vs "direct" connection
I’ll be the Philistine here.  I use an Android tablet and Chromecast Apple Music to my Cambridge Audio streamer.  It sounds pretty good to me.  If I use my iPhone then it’s AirPlay, which is a slight tick below Redbook Quality
MQA....again.
I wonder about the economics here.  Lenbrook had gone all in on MQA in all of their streamers.  Have they perceived that this gave them a competitive advantage in the market place?  Or did they invest financially in MQA and now that they own it ar...
Attention: Debussy-loving audiophiles
24/48 usually doesn’t cut it for me.  Btw, mentioning the name of the Conductor might have been a nice touch
MQA....again.
Well, all the money is in steaming.  If Lensbrook is able to position MQA in a way to attract perhaps 10% of the business away from competitors, then perhaps it is worth it.  They paid very little to acquire MQA.   Whether MQA has any merit is a ...
Quandary
The hardest thing is knowing when to say you are done, your system sounds great, etc.  This is a site that caters to people who always want to experiment and tinker and check out the grass on the other side of the fence.  There is nothing wrong wi...
A day in the life of an audiophile
This thread is about noise pollution.  Lately I’ve been in several public spaces where the background music has been so loud that it’s impossible to think.  And there is the age old problem of people blasting their music from cars or motorcycles a...
New preamp or up grade my cartridge and or phono amp?
I’m not a Rega fan but my one cent contribution would be that it’s the Emotiva that is holding your system back.  Junk that, get a proper set of separates, and then scrap the Rega stuff when funds allow
Do you belong more to souce first or to speakers first school of thought ?
It all matters.  Having said that I don’t think that the emphasis on the source should be what it was 50 years ago because the quality of the sources has improved so much.  Midfi turntables and digital sources sound pretty good these days, as a ru...
Digital LP’s
For the life of me I don’t know why someone would want to listen to a digital file that has been converted to an analog wave form , embedded in a slab of petroleum, and then extracted with a glorified sewing needle slashing its way through the gro...
Do you past equipment appear in your dreams?
So in his book about analyzing dreams, did Freud have a section on tube amps vs solid state?  And another on digital vs analog?
