I have an Oppo 105 I my two channel system.  I play many Blu Rays using the analog outs and the sound is great. Until I read this thread I never realized that BDP do not output high Rez via digital outputs.

DAC VS AVR
Presumably the AVR has a built in DAC for digital sources. What your are basically saying is that you prefer the overall sound of the combination of the amplication/preamplification from the AVR and the DAC in the AVR compared to the previous Amp/...

Does your preamp have a HT bypass?  If so you can keep it in the system and add an AVR for multichannel .

Kalman Rubinson does a brief comparison of two 5.1 channel dacs in the current issue of Stereophile.  Neither of them qualifies as cheap.

The c-5xeMP is going to be discontinued, according to an Ayre dealer in Chicago that I spoke with yesterday.  It will be replaced with a 2 chassis unit, which sounds like a separate transport and dac, and will sell for around $10K

I think some of these responses are more complicated for the OP than they need to be.  In general, the DAC will determine the sound. 
Need thoughts RE-Best Universal for my High end audio and TV, video etc.
Have you contacted Conrad Johnson?in general,amps should be the easiest things to work with.  The harder components are the ones that rely on HDMI hand offs.i would get another installer
