Berkeley Alpha DAC vs Theta Gen VIII and stuff...
I just heard an Orpheus Prism (a DAC often used for mastering) over the weekend in my system (I normally use a ModWright Transporter).I was very, very impressed.

Man, sometimes vinyl is a real PITA.

The Wikipedia seems to indicate that rumble affects the sound even when not audible. "Even when not audible, rumble can cause intermodulation, modulating the amplitude of other frequencies. The ‘unweightedÂ’ response curve is intended for use in as...

Thanks, Doug. I did remove the damping fluid as I didn't like what it did to the sound (I've now removed the damping trough as well).I wish I knew whether the Doshi worked better in this regard, but it was only recently that I removed the lower gr...
TriPlanar Tips
Thanks for the reply, Doug. I had never removed the trough (even though I had never added fluid) but last night I gave it a try at the suggestion of Kevin (from KAB) who suggested it might cure my rumble issue. It didn't - but it certainly changed ...

Question for all of you: why don't you use damping fluid with the Triplanar?
Woofers getting workout, but no bass

Thanks for all your replies. I do think it's worse at the beginning of an LP.My floor is concrete, but the turntable is at the back of the room where there is bass buildup. I think my stand is fairly solid, and I'm using a Terrastone platform unde...

Check phase: you mean speaker phase? This is correct.DC at amp output: can you explain this?I probably should have mentioned that I'm using a Triplanar/Dynavector XV-1s.Read up on the rumble and it does describe my situation. How normal is this? I...
Vandersteen Model 7: has anyone heard?
I appreciate your response, Samuel, thank you.
Vandersteen Model 7: has anyone heard?
Samuel,Did you like them better than your Maxx 3s?
Vandersteen Model 7: has anyone heard?
I can also say that these were among the best speakers I've ever heard. If I could afford them, I'd buy them in a hearbeat.

I've been trying to locate the diffusors used in the Vandersteen/ARC room. Can you provide more info on the brand? I tried googling HRS to no avail.Thx.
