What are the more subtle sounding tube preamps?
+1 for the Odyssey Candela, more preamp for less money may not exist. Tube rolling will set it up for just the sound that works for you.  You'll have to spend 5x the price to beat it.  Pair it with an SS amp and you get tube smooth with great cont...
Looking for a Phono pre around 1K
No mention of Jolida jd9. The modded jd9 may be the true giant killer under 1k.
Ground Hum with Rega RP6, Exact and TT PSU.
Inside rega arms, at the back where the counterweight stub is threaded in, there is a ground wire attached to a tiny copper shim. The shim is held in place by tension in the deepest threads of the arm tube/stub connection. This wire comes lose and...
Cartridge for Rega Planar 3?
Btw. The Herbies mat on the stock platter is killer.  No need for acrylic which can have its own coloration. And do give it that rega nudge. Belt will last much  longer.
Cartridge for Rega Planar 3?
I have a (more than a little upgraded) Rp3. Not much different than the planar. With a 3mm shim, I'm running an ortofon 2m black.  I haven't heard a better match for the 3 range Regas. MM or MC. The compliance issue is importatant with the rega ar...
Best divorce album?

While th thinking about an upgrade to the Cambridge, it occurred to me to try my old PSA 4.6 - just as a phono stage- feeding the Candela from the tape out.  Very nice. And improving as it runs in, having been in a closet for a long time. Got to g...
Looking for seperates under $5k~
+1 for the odysseys. The Candela hybrid pre is very smooth and detailed and a pair of Khartago Extreme monoblocks will still keep within your budget. Factory direct and extremely clean/ solid build have them playing way over their price point. Als...

thanks for all the good input... the consensus seems to be that the Cambridge is a weak point.  I'm going to see what I can find used around 400-500.Room treatment is intriguing, though I think my room is fairly good as is. 15x 22 asymmetrical, sl...

Trying to avoid frequently making and breaking connections.  Hard on the cables.  Also I like to add to an ongoing mix as a track comes on and fits.

Thanks Al, major help and much appreciated.   I'll give the db systems switch a try,  seems like the right way to go.

Al, thanks. I understand now, how the the change came about.  I'm thinking a quality switch would be a better choice for my system, so there'd be only one interconnect and device being driven at a time. I hope I can find a 1 in-2out switch. Haven'...
What are the best drop in subs for a 12AU7??
You might try the very inexpensive (about 30 a pair) but remarkable jj ecc802's.. great balance between European warmth and American detail.
Is Audio nirvana real?
Its budget sensitive; if you spent all you can afford, you're much more likely to hear the good things in your system rather than the flaws.  You can decide to be satisfied, and so to focus on the music.I'm listening to Sgt. Peppers for the thousa...
Bruce Cockburn - dancing in the dragons claws great listen!
I have nearly all of Cockburn's music, I know of only a handful of artists with such consistently great recordings and song writing over such a long career
