rookie drunk move
Where would we 'good audiophiles' be without drinking stories and rewiring catastrophies? We've all done this at one point or another, if not with alcohol, tired, pissed off, moving day, whatever. My age old response to "Could something be wrong" is...
Best Diana Krall album...........is???
Questioning her popularity is valid--but has to be seen in context of her timing. She came about at a time when active female, 'jazz' artists were seemingly few in number. Her "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" was a good song and she does have good pit...
The day the music died.
"True Love Ways"--theaudiotweek brought that cut to my attention back in 1988, as I recall. Though somewhat of a peripheral fan, I had missed how well that was recorded. Truly amazing.
Stevie Wonder-As
Excellent point Chazro, he's still around creating music. Why is it that we start to discard performers after they get so 'white hot' in their careers? Do they fade as creators of music, composers, or do we become immune to them and their works?
New Pre or Integrated for 2nd system, thoughts?
Just wondering if the Dreded Scott company ever made an integrated?
Where do I learn more about audio stuff?
Art,Lissten, listen, listen to your system. Then, think of ten questions about what you're hearing and bring those questions to the overwhelmingly nice folks here on Audiogon. Don't be afraid to ask anything that seems important to you. We'll try ...
Stevie Wonder-As
Stevie's song, "Lately" was incredible poetry, (1981/1982 off the Master Blaster album) was notable, very notable. He sings the first verse, then the bridge, then swells to one full octave above the previous, without employing his falsetto. What a...
Sibilance in recordings: your experience the same?
Without any scientific data to support this, I would say that, while I agree that sibilance is a real artifact, that it's not limited to simply microphones. The reason I question this is, why does it manifest primarily and while not exclusively, a...
Sibilance in recordings: your experience the same?
Sibilance, to me is the most annoying of virtually all system flaws. I remember my first foray into High End audio was disappointing almost entirely, because there was virtually no female singer who didn't sizzzzzle into the mic, or so I thought.E...
What components are manufactured in the U.S.A.?
It is a slippery slope to say, "Made in the USA", if the lion's share of parts, boards, virtually everything contained in the product is manufactured elsewhere. Having said this, I think Pamela Anderson is now an import based on this criterion.
Magnepan upgrade from Stereo Unlimited question
Let me qualify this answer by stating that I know nothing about their proposed upgrade.Having said that, beware of any upgrades by any source other than the Original Equipment Manufacturer. Better yet, ask Magnepan about the nature of the upgrade ...
The best "imaging" speakers?
Yes,Shadorne, you're exactly right, the dynamic compression is the most notable difference. Of course that Harry James disc is strange, perhaps cut this way on purpose, it's so low in terms of volume overall, that it seems to have greater dynamics...
Modern day female jazz recommendations
If Jane Monheit's musical selections were as terrific as her physical appearance, WOW, she'd be at the top of all the 'more lustful' male audiophiles on this site!
Louis Bellson RIP
Louis was, IMHO a better technician than Buddy Rich. Buddy was the consummate showman, but not as good, for my taste as Louis. I remember his (maybe I was half asleep) mutton chops in the late '70's... Did I dream that?
The best "imaging" speakers?
A friend of mine and I went to hear a live big band performance in a pretty good venue. No serious acoustic problems. We stopped back at my house on the way home and I put on a couple of big band cuts, (Harry James Sheffield) and my friend, a musi...
