magnepan 1.7 or 3.7 vs spendor s8e
Wow,Transition. Be careful. The transition from a British speaker like Spendor, is a leap...very different presentation. I personally like the British Sound that Spendor represents...unlike B&W, it's a pleasant sound, very nice with a warm rich...
Problem with soundstage up near ceiling.
The only other thing I could suggest, would be, try the whole system in another location in the house. That will tell you a LOT.Not that you can leave it elsewhere...but it grounds your acoustic thinking.Larry

Help me choose
This will fall firmly into the 'throw it out if you don't like it category.'During design work, I always listened to female voices for eval (that's a starting and ending point).I suppose it is because we know what the female voice sounds like, and...
Miles Davis Newbe Question
OK, Ck, what about it? You done any listening to these industry giants, saints?Larry
Gryphon vs. McIntosh
It was with no small sense of irony and sadness that I read the post from Gryphonaudio.'We have a dealer in Zagreb'...of course you do.Below, is a list of the top GDP countries in the world...lists like this are aways questionable...so read it wit...
SS amp for Merlin VSMs?
Mcpherson,Bobby hasn't answered...I can. You'll NEVER hear the tweets in a Merlin speaker...at least not in the 'conscious' part of listening.I always say, 'The best tweeter I ever heard, I didn't.'His speakers just span the frequencies smoothly......
Album which you have listened to most?
An album that I can't recommend highly enough:Stacy Kent's "Raconte-Moi".The title is French and means simply, Tell Me.I don't speak French...barely get by with English, with a little pig latin thrown in.But...BUT, this album will melt your soul.H...
"Violinists blast holes in violin experiment"
Tomcy6...to be honest...yes, I believe I can.A few years ago, I went to an audio store to hear a particular Integrated amplifier on a pair of speakers that I'm very familiar with.About 30 seconds into the audition, I asked:"Are you using Audioques...
Turntable speed accuracy
Lewm,Been thinking about your 'what turntable' question...It may have been an Oracle...it's been a long time...sorry.The tables of note then were, as I said, Linn, SOTA, Oracle...no doubt a few others, but they were, in my little part of the count...
"Violinists blast holes in violin experiment"
Tomcy6,"Larry, based on your experience doing A/B/A blind tests and no surprises, do you think that your expectations might have influenced what you heard?"OK, I'm thick some times, so maybe I'm misunderstanding, if so forgive me.By doing the test...
Worth Going to 'THE SHOW' IN NYC IN APRIL
Buconero,I would check the Attendees list for 'who's' going to be showing. That's a good indicator.Sometimes the lesser attended shows give one more opportunities to meet and listen.Good luck...how have you been???Larry
Turntable speed accuracy
Lewm asked, 'What Turntable', I'm thinking that he was asking what Magnepan was using at the CES.Memory of 30 years ago tells me it was a Linn Sondek, but that seems wrong...Funny, Linn ruled for a while, when SOTA entered. Sota which was more neu...
How much Power for Maggies 3.6 is enough
Josh358,Great point and well said. And, as always, 'how loud' is a personal matter.Loud to me, used to be moderate to some and so on.Another Jim Thiel quote here...One time during a seminar, someone asked Jim..(at my store)..."Mr. Thiel...all thing...
Gryphon vs. McIntosh
Let's call it 'flabby' or 'loose'...yeah, I struggled with that. Not well damped would probably work too.Sorry...words escaped me.Those comparisons, inadequate vocabulary notwithstanding, should be fairly accurate for a numbskull like me.Larry
