My tube amp sounds darker now.
Knghifi has a valid point. Real Siemens are very open and detailed. Can u try different tubes as a test?

It does sound like Plant and Jimmy Page's style, but It could be the track was bootlegged and someone put their own video to it.

Thanks, Ptmconsulting. Hope it's not too compressed like Mothership.
Need help fixing a Linn Axis
UPDATE... Many thanks to Mofimadness for the referral to Rick at Audio Alternatives. He replaced a bent pulley spindle and added new caps. I'm amazed he had the parts.
Is a vinyl rig only worth it for oldies?
Rauliruegas, a very good explanation of the analog signal path and I understand your rationale for enjoying digital.BUT, your analog setup is so beautiful I hope you are still using it. I can only dream of a setup like that.
dedicated power line for audio equipment
Yes, 20 amp dedicated line. Some people with monoblocks run (2)20 amps lines, one per amp and then split off these lines for the rest of their gear.
Hearing Tests
Sabai, I agree w/ you. My info comes from the ENT and I think the majority of people lose hearing across the high frequencies and the very low as they age. But, the high freq. sensitivity thing does happen to some people. He obviously knew about t...
Hearing Tests

Solman989, I think what you're talking about is the vinyl with a high level of compression. With new vinyl I've found it depends on the record label, the artist, and/or the mastering studio. I just bought a new pressing of jimi's "Are You Experien...

I would say that there definitely was a "golden age" for record cutting. About 1970 to 1990...tube equipment evolving to transistors, state of the art cutting machines, and experienced engineers who loved their craft. (they even engraved their ini...
Matching up speakers and amps
Very good advice from Steveaudio. But it's vital that you match the impedance levels. The tube preamp output impedance must be low. (Many of the newer tube pre's have low outputs).
