Looking for Better Jitter Reduction in a DAC
Steve, attenuators were connected to the input of the preamp. Then preamp was removed from system and DAC output > ICs > attenuators > amp input.
Dealers That Sell Large Volumes of Used Gear Online
I recently discovered a source for new, used, and demo gear; Audiowaves Hifi. I’ve made two purchases so far on some "sale" items. I also purchased a JPS Labs cable and returned it, no problem at all.The owner, Alan, is great to deal with and offe...
How expensive are best NOS tubes ? And how difficult to find ?
It's true that as availability of NOS tubes goes down, prices do go up. And the supply of true "New In Box" old stock is diminishing, but there is still a great supply of NOS tubes that are removed from electronic gear from military, medical, indu...
How expensive are best NOS tubes ? And how difficult to find ?
Not every stage in a preamp or amp needs NOS tubes. There are phase splitters and cathode-followers which have less sonic affect on the circuit. New production tubes are cheap and also sound good as power tubes. There are some really good quality ...

But like Steakster says eveything in the chain is adding or subtracting the digititus and the results are cumulative. Its probably not one thing.I agree with this concept. So, here’s what I’ve been doing since my last post:- Tried Harrison Labs at...
Changed amplifiers and need some feedback...
That's true, mesch. Phase inverted preamp would not present a noticeable change in the soundstage. I believe that single gain stage preamps usually have inverted phase. A second stage will convert the phase back to normal.
Changed amplifiers and need some feedback...
Thanks nononsense. But the issue  may be caused by the preamp. That's a good catch.
Changed amplifiers and need some feedback...
No wonder this amp is on it's 4th owner!  I hate when somebody has a problem with a component and the solution is to pass it off to an unsuspecting buyer.Anyway, good luck with the amp. I've heard good things about Odyssey.

Sounds like a phase issue. How are your rear speakers wired into a 2 channel system? I suggest starting with the front speakers only to get the stereo imaging correct. If it sounds off, try reversing the L and R leads on one speaker only.
Burning/breaking in new equipment?
All very good advise. I'll add that during the hours you aren't or can't play music, leave your components powered up to continue burn-in.You don't say what your source will be, but play dynamic music that will cover the entire frequency spectrum....
Another question about bi wiring
I used two sets of kimber kable 8tc wires.one for uppers one for lowers on a set of nht 2.5i.If you’re using this type of connection, binding straps should be disconnected. Straps and jumpers are only used when connecting to one set of binding pos...
How does the sound of a power tube change, over time?
as power tubes age does the amp suffer in terms of frequency extension, dynamics, volume, etc? Yes, what I notice is a loss of top-end extension and a dullness to the sound, as in a loss of dynamics. But this change due to aging tubes happens gradu...
Best Volume Settings?
My vote is less amp volume and more source gain, but again, you don't want clipping If memory serves, that is standard procedure in the studio. Playback and recording starts at the source to achieve the highest signal to noise. But not all compo...
Questions from a Tube Preamp newbie
I have NOS Mullards ECC 82’s , sounds like somebody threw a blanket over my system . Kinda like pushing the Dolby button on a cassette player . As always, YMMV.Regarding Mullard and other NOS brands, if they are noise-tested they should sound good...

I still think you may have a gain mismatch (2.8V into a power amp with a 1.0V sensitivity). It does depend a bit on the design of the amplifier's gain control. Does it come after an input stage? If so, that input stage could still be driven into c...
