Speakers least affected by room acoustics
Google Spatial Audio. Check out the M3 and M4 Turbo S. These are open baffle speakers, not enclosed floorstanders. They would not need acoustic treatments on the wall behind them or any bass traps. But you should still listen in the near-field.How...
Transport for Exogal Comet Plus DAC
I really like the look of the Woo Audio WTP1 and it's priced very well. Top-loading beats the sliding tray any day.If you're interested, you should look for the user reviews. It looks like some thought went into controlling vibration. Maybe you ca...
Question for tube aficionados
I would imagine RCA Cleartops would work well in a CJ due to their airy high-end.
Question for tube aficionados
I like the 5814a variant of the RCA Blackplate. It is more dynamic than the 12au7. The Cleartops are good if you like extended highs.Re... the Blackplate 12AU7, the older the better. Early 1950s, low noise is best for the classic tube sound.
Now, I'm confused.
The soundstage consists of width and depth. That's why room treatments are being recommended. Using absorbtion and/or diffusion panels will help shape the soundstage and focus the image.Regarding a preamp, the Schiit Freya may be worth an audition...
Question for tube aficionados
@rvpiano, the RCA BLACKPLATES are very good tubes for a decent price. Known for their dynamic open sonics and classic tube sound. Make sure the pair are matched and tested for noise.
Radio interference caused by power cord?
The AC-14SE MkII has a lower noise-floor and it's a very noticeable improvement.
Question for tube aficionados
I agree with previous comments to first replace the 12AU7’s. But, substituting Gold Lion 12AU7’s will be a horizontal move; there will not be a dramatic improvement. To really open up your preamp you need to go with NOS tubes. There is so much goo...
Transport for Exogal Comet Plus DAC
I was on the forum seeking advice about a new Dac and many Exogal Comet Plus owners stated the clock was so good they didn't need an external device.
noisy tube preamp
Purchase tubes from a reputable dealer and always ask if they are tested for noise.Upscale and Vintage Tube Services do noise testing as well as tube matching. Brent Jessee offers noise testing for a $10 fee. Tubes used in the gain stage should al...
Rogue RP 1 or Super Magnum 99
If your Super Magnum 99 uses 6SN7's, then it produces a more classic and lush tube sound than the newer Rogue preamps. You don't say if you have the tube phono section, but the RP-1 uses a SS phono stage which is excellent. I think you'll have to ...
First time w/ Tubes - pings/noises normal?
I've only heard low-level popping or crackling from some NOS tubes during the first few hours of burn-in. It doesn't sound right that a preamp would be making those noises. Especially since it was tested at the factory.
Linear Power Supply for a DAC
@grannyring ,Since you use several TeraDaks, is there an advantage to owning a single voltage TeraDak LPS rather than the multiple voltage units? i.e., 5V, 9V, 12V selectable.Currently I need to power a 5V digital source.
Price to list ad
Agree that Audiogon gets the most action, and if you list using percentage vs. flat fee, you are actually losing 5% due to PP. I still recommend Audiogon for the fastest sale and most trusted community. But recently there has been increased views o...
Phasing
Are you using a tube preamp with a single gain-stage?"a couple of weeks"... that may not be enough time in terms of hours of break-in.
