What's the future for vinyl lovers?
I'm bummed by this fire. I loved the fact that increasing numbers of new jazz releases, some by relatively obscure players, were coming out on vinyl again. That momentum is likely to be lost or seriously impeded by this fire, it seems. In addition,...
What's the future for vinyl lovers?
Maybe less 180g and 200 gram vinyl will be produced. Get back to pressing 150g records; sound quality will not suffer. But let's not return to the days of 120g vinyl.
How to guarantee to lower noise- ground loops in your system
Agree with @atmasphere and @andy2. Ground-loop is caused by components having different ground potential. This begins with the design of the grounding scheme. Some designs share a signal ground and a safety ground, or some components don't have th...

Kate Bush Mastered for Vinyl 1, 2, 3 and 4.
Great to hear from another Kate fan and thanks for the correction. I haven't seen this new vinyl release.I'm familiar with "50 Words" but only have the CD.  Interesting about the noise; these days it very well could be the quality of the pressing....
Damping Plates
@noromance , dont know. But maybe not a good idea to have bare metal touching the amp.My weights are lined with cork and are on top of sources.
Damping Plates
@mesch , I have the cork on the bottom. They stay in place just fine with no scratches. I didn't want to use rubber, even synthetic, in case of residue. But @david_ten can speak to that.
Kate Bush Mastered for Vinyl 1, 2, 3 and 4.
The latest release is called "Kate Bush Remastered." I haven’t heard the vinyl releases but my feeling is that it’s a good thing if there’s tape hiss on a remaster. It indicates there is very low compression being used. It’s faithful to the origin...
Kate Bush Mastered for Vinyl 1, 2, 3 and 4.
I have quite a large Kate Bush LP collection (different pressings), most were purchased at the time of their release. I agree the UK pressing of TKI is worthy of being called reference-quality.In many interviews Kate expressed how she hated the so...
Damping Plates
On equipment with contiguous top plates (no exposed tubes)  I spray painted 2.5 and 5 lb. bar bell weights and glued a thin cork sheet under. @mesch , great minds think alike. I needed to damp a new  component but didn't want to spend any more mon...
Damping Plates
I use them on all my tube components. I have various footers, mostly DH Cones with maple platforms to drain component and rack vibration.I'm using Edensound damping weights on top to prevent acoustic vibration; two damping weights evenly placed on...
Clipping
OK, so they're 8 ohm nominal.I don't see an impedance curve, but Fritz states that they are easy to drive with low powered amps. Very little chance of clipping.I'll agree with others that it could be cartridge or phonostage related. I've played lo...
Clipping
Can’t find Fritz Carbon 8 MK II online. Need to know the impedance as well as the 84dB spec. +1 roberjerman. Also, have you tried different a different load setting on phonostage?
180 gram vinyl vs First Pressing used
As millercarbon alluded to, 180g has nothing to do with the quality of records being produced. It's simply the current product being produced vs. 120 gram and 150g in past years.
180 gram vinyl vs First Pressing used
It’s true that there have always been defects in mass produced vinyl. But when the golden age of vinyl ended, pressing plants closed, lathes and all associated equipment were liquidated and the craftsmen who manufactured these records lost their jo...
