Which one produces a bigger change... changing a rectifier tube or tubes on my DAC? What don't you like about the sound of your dac? I would recommend rolling the signal tubes before a rectifier, so what type of sound do you seek?Changing a rectifier tube is like a tweak. You have to be pleased with the overall sonics of the comp...
Old school vs new school audio??? Since this thread has been revived, how are you doing fidelity??
New Unreleased Art Blakey It appeared in my Qobuz "New Album" feed today.Art Blakey is so cool.
CD Transport VS Streamer I just reread your post. Poor high and low-end performance may be do to not isolating the transport. This is a lightweight component, it needs more than stock footers for best performance.
CD Transport VS Streamer Bruce, trying a CDP is a good next move.Regarding jitter, one of the reasons for designing the transport only devices is to reduce jitter (compared to a digital out on the back of a common CDP). If the CXC had a jitter problem I think it would hav...
CD Transport VS Streamer Bruce,I can't understand your findings, although I believe you.The Node has a small power supply vs. a good sized toroid in the CXC. The transport should be playing back music with authority across the spectrum. Are these two components on the sam...
CD Transport VS Streamer Definitely let the CXC burnin non-stop for 2-3 days.Which Cullen PC did you order? They all need time to burn-in, some more than others. Patrick can tell you about burn-in.
Do the best audio designers put their ears before the numbers. Audio Note is a company that measures their components to meet certain specs and then they listen. The end result comes from what the designer hears. There's a good interview with the owner, I'll try to find it.
Replace Carver TFM 15? I doubt you can get your amp inspected and recapped for $100. Get an estimate and then you can make a decision.I didn't put any money into my old Carver and kept it as a backup. Funds went toward a new (used) amp.
Shootout of Nos 6sn7 tubes @big_gregFor now I have my Sylvania 1950s vintage 6SN7GTB chrome domes in. They are really nice sounding all around, but don’t have the bass of the 1578 and maybe a little less detail. They are very "neutral" sounding and do everything right, but ...
Tubes, to damp or not to damp? Whether you're a fan of tube damping or not, O-rings are too tight and apply pressure on the glass. The stock dampers on ARC amps are probably ok since they selected them or they're proprietary.
Tube replacement recommendations I see they are Russian military and well regarded. Looks like the option you have is either buy new production or buy NOS military.
Tubes, to damp or not to damp? OP, do you think your tubes need damping or are you experimenting?I’ve used Herbies dampers in the past on various components but I don’t seem to need them in my latest system. Currently there isn’t any benefit to damping.
Who, do you think, designs the best looking tube-based devices? Ahh, Emotive Audio. Beautiful.
Tubes, to damp or not to damp? I’ve used Herbies UltraSonic SS dampers without any over damping effects. They prevent acoustic vibration from speakers or resonance from audio racks, especially on components with exposed tubes. Also good for tightening up the bass on some tubes.... |
