Joseph Audio Pulsars i auditioned the pulsars recently with the new peachtree preamp and a pair of manley shrimp(s). they're very good--extremely fast, detailed and transparent. ruthlessly revealing--lousy recordings sound lousy. bass extension was not real deep (they...
Small wall-mount speaker recommendations? rega rs1 are within your budget and size criteria and sound very good--they work very wall at or near wall. also consider audioengine passive monitor (p4?)--surprisingly good for the price.
Genuine Basement tapes there's a 4cd version called tree with roots--usually available on ebay.
Use Marantz 6006 as pre amp to a Rotel 1095? definitely worth trying--the amp section is the achilles heel on most mass market avrs. i'd be surprised if you didn't see significant information with the rotel.
early 80s stereo receiver mm/mc phono.... remotes weren't commonplace 'til the late 80s, so you're probably looking at that era. in contrast to mofi, i'm very happy with my yamaha rx1000--lots of power features, etc. i've also heard some 2 ch sony es from the same period which should fit ...
FM Radio is dead ....R.I.P xm (and to a lesser extent pandora) completely ruined fm for me--except for a couple of hard-to-get, sporadically good college stations, fm is a complete abyss in my town. that said, the audio quality of xm has always disappointed--it's not nearly...
Monitor speaker with the best bass at $500 used fully agree with rrog re: the vs vr1s--they're a great, well-built speaker with massive thump for their size. $500-$550 is the correct used price--i've never seen 'em significantly cheaper. you could also look at polk lsi9.
sleeper small subs stereo application i believe hsu designs the outlaw sub (haven't heard the outlaw, but the hsu is really good). also check out martin logan dynamo.
LED vs Plasma, 60" vs 65" according to pcmag, black levels on the best leds are now better that plasma, to wit:Historically, plasma HDTVs have produced the best black levels, specifically the now-defunct Pioneer Kuro HDTV brand. The Kuro's screen got so satisfyingly dark t...
RCA vs optical cable? someone dares to disrespect almarg? does he not fear the wrath of the audio gods?
2/3 of the way there. HT crash course help wanted if music were the priority, i'd opt for the b&k (or alternatively something like an arcam avr300)--they're sonically on another level than the mass-market avrs. however, since you indicate you'll be 80% movies, avgoround's advise is sound--a c...
RCA vs optical cable? what i think you meant to ask is whether you can use a standard analog (red/white) rca audio cable as a digital coaxial (spdif) cable. (digital optical cables have a different type of connector). as kal notes, an analog rca cable has a different i...
Help me build a nearfiield "desktop" audio system sounds like you're using your pc as a source, so you'll probably want a dac--consider something like the peachtree decco65 ($800), which is both integrated amp and dac + audioengine p4 speakers ($300ish) which are designed for at-or-near wall plac...
Setup of Rotel RSX1056 w/o Remote? get yourself a harmony universal, which use an easy online setup and will control virtually anything--their earlier models like the 510 harmonyare very inexpensive ($50 or less) on ebay. it'll be much cheaper than buying a replacement rotel remote.
I'm on StereoTimes... pathetic. sad. symetry. |
