What is your favorite 1 hit wonder from the 70's?
i was gonna offer "spirit in the sky", but notice it was released in 1969 (though still charted in 1970). "venus" and "vehicle" (ides of march) would fit the bill; likwise "hocus pocus" (focus) and "be thankful for what you got" (great tune).

help me choosing first HiFi
if i was starting all over again, with your budget, instead of the mountain of big boxes i've accumulated i'd opt for a relatively compact integrated/dac solution like a peachtree nova--haven't heard your cambridge minx, although it looks good on ...
Your Help with Media Player
the oppo looks like very viable, but overkill for me since i don't need its bluray/streaming functions. someone suggested offline something like the western digital wd live media player, which i could connect to my tv and avr, plug in a hard drive...
Rock: well recorded bass...60s/70s
ghost, i've previoulsy debated whether layla is overrated, but ultimately always came out on the side that says it's not. there is a bunch of filler--key to the highway and have you ever loved a woman are the sort of lethargic dross i think you're...

Ghost, are u not a fan of Derek and the Dominos?
Rock: well recorded bass...60s/70s
bd, not that anything i say merits close attention, but i didn't accuse cream of being prog-y--i was referring to procol harum. in any event, while i never liked the mc5 (who were much more countercultural icons than worthwhile music makers), i do...
Rock: well recorded bass...60s/70s
slightly off topic, but i though i'd weigh in on bd's and ghost's missives. procol harum had certain prog-y elements (technical virtuosity, obscure lyrics, ambitious song structures), but at core were a pop band--their best stuff was very accessib...
Rock: well recorded bass...60s/70s
ghost: yes was uncool because of (a) sci-fi lyrics and incomprehensible dungeons 'n dragons imagery (b)bloated, purposely difficult "compositions" with long drum solos, (c) technical proficiency as opposed to punky attitude, and (d)no one i know a...

andy fraser on free's "fire and water" lp was a bass player's wet dream--he played more lead than anything else. the songs were great, too.a guiltier pleasure was chris squire on yes's "fragile;" yes was very uncool but i still listened to this re...
Best Option In A Silver CD/SACD Player $1k Or Less
you can find marantz sa, denon 5910, sony scd and integra rdv in silver for less than a grand, though i'd prbably go with the oppo myself
Von Schweikert VR-4
zoon, enjoy the vs--i recall them having quite a low end wallop. i believe they're very placement-sensitive, and you'll likely get enhanced bass performance by re-positioning/moving towards wall, etc.
Need Help buying headphones and head amps
in chicago/evanston/hinsdale audio consultants would be a good place to audition heapdphones and amps--they have alot of grado and sennheiser at different price ranges
