Moderate Priced Integrated Amp
the conventional wisdom would be to get your speakers first, then match amp to same. however, if you want to get the amp first, i concur that you're on the right track with your list--arcam, rega and cambridge are all good, reliable all-arounders ...
I have 2 cd players, which is better musically
the cal audio is a nice enough piece, but probaably at least 15 years old, which is eons in audiophile time. the denon, on the other hand, is a much more modern-sounding player with excellent inboard dac. somewhat incomprehensibly, purists shudder...
Advice on going from mid level to high end
consistent with the previous posters, i'd look first and foremost to upgrading your speakers. you have excellent amp/preamp/sources; my sense is the polks are your weakest link. there are numerous threads regarding the best speakers in the $3-5k r...
Best $2000-$3000 full range speaker?
i endorse many of knownothing's picks (i'm a big focal/revel/rega fan); i'd also consider the psb synchrony, von schweikert vr2/vr4jr and vmps rm30. good luck.
Have you heard of EMOTIVA?
i know emotiva has a free in-home trial on all their new gear--they'll take back anything you don't like for any reason. good, no-risk policy.
Lost Help Amp for PSB imagine T
a lot of folk tout the nad/psb synergy; i've heard psb auditioned with nad and been unmoved--it's ok but kinda static. on the other hand, i auditioned the imagine bookshelves with a naim integrated and thought it sounded great--full of life. like ...
Speaker upgrade to go with new Arcam AVR 600?
you don't specify a budget, but your avr retails for five grand, so i'm assuming you want something comparably priced. for ht and tv, i'd want to listen to the following, among others:definitive mythospsb synchrony (great)psb imagine (almost as go...
HELP SUGGESTIONS FOR A BETTER SOUND
i've owned the solos and still own the studios. the solos are a great speaker, but have a certain attribute, which is they're power hungry and really open up at higher volumes--they're not really optimal for polite, low-level listening. i agree wi...
the greatest pop song ever?

Have you heard of EMOTIVA?
obviously the op wants validation for his purchase. we all need validation sometimes, so why the barbed responses?in any event, stickman, emotiva registers a fine company with good customer service. their power amps are commendably neutral and ver...
set speakers large or small?
samll. let the sub do its thing.
Is Monster cable getting better?
as someone who's never grasped much difference between well-made cables, i don't understand why monster gets slammed for "promulgating myths" or hyping their (comparatively) modestly priced products when virtually every purveyor of mega-buck cable...
How do you like your store demo?
a high-end dealer friend of mine told me that probably 2/3s of the customers who walk in his store are either gawkers or there to sample his wares with the view to buying it cheaper on the net. the other 1/3 are there with some real intention to p...
harbeth p3esr or usher be 718
i just auditioned the ushers, whose aesthetics i've always admired. fantastic tweeter and high end which rivals focal as the best i've heard in its class. sounded great with acoustic music and female vox. however, on more dense/heavier rock stuff,...
Entry level CDP
there's really no comparison btwn the musical fidelity and the consumer-grade nad and marantz stuff--the mf is a really well-built, over engineered high end piece, while the latter are mass-market, mass produced stuff--sorta like comparing a lexus...
