Linn LK-1 remote codes? harmony claims to be programmable to anything remote-controllable. fantastic customer service.
upgrade from Paradigm Studio 20s? i agree with phasecorrect--assuming you want a real upgrade, not a lateral move, i'd look at something with more wow. since you've got a sub, like many of the above posters, i'd opt for monitors--proac response, totem model 1 sig, lsa, revel m22 (...
Do all good interconnects sound the same? since sanders makes and sells inexpensive interconnects, one might conclude that his white paper is self-serving, but from my own admittedly skewed experience, i think his conclusions are correct--i really believe that in truly blind testing very ...
SACD - Pioneer Elite any good? Cambridge Audio? rongon:you're correct--the sony would only output redbook, not SACD to the dac. i believe there are a few players that will output DSD over HDMI as well as a number that will output DSD over iLink, firewire or other uncommon interfaces, but you're...
SACD - Pioneer Elite any good? Cambridge Audio? another option would be to keep your backup sony as a transport and add a good dac like the cambridge dacmagic or mf v-dac (both within your budget)--this will markedly improve the sound. if you need dvd functionality, i'd also opt for oppo.
Good used receiver for bedroom. Denon? Marantz? as i've previously opined, there's little cost-effective difference between the similarly-positioned onkyo/marantz/pio/denon and other mass market avrs; if forced to choose within your budget, i'd opt for yamaha, which to my ears sounds less "proc...
Amazing ''Overachieving'' products...your pick? koss porta-pro headphones. $40 or so. comfortable, great sounding, come with a lifetime replacement guarantee. these blow away any earbud-type phones i've heard and compete quite nicely with the lower end grado/sennheiser cans.
any early 80's alt/soft punk fans out there? how about: the incredible comsat angels--waiting for a miracle/fictionthe sound--jepoardysoft boys--underwater moonlightfor against--great, hugely underrecognized joy division influenced band from nebraska!i'm also surprised no one's mentioned wir...
Opinions please on a starter audiophile system? there's no right or wrong on this subject, of course, but if i had $4k i'd start with the speakers and then match amp/source. given your room size/budget, perhaps a nice floorstander like psb imagine/totem hawk/revel f12?
Best Rock Album in 2010 lots of good picks above. i'd add:the nationalnels cline--initiate (awesome free form guitarist currently slumming w/wilco)i've spent some time with the xx and broken bells and haven't quite fallen in love. broken bells in particular is a great so...
Are Revel F12 speakers too much for a small room? i agree with ejlif--the revels are notoriously power hungry. you'll likely need a more powerful amp, but i would absolutely check it out at the dealer's first--power ratings are frequently deceiving.
New reissue of Exile on Main Street i finally succumbed and bought the new exile reissue. to my ears, it does sound better than the original cd and vinyl releases--more detailed and less murky, without the overly-digital brightness of most such exercises--drums and piano, in particu...
Anyone Use A CD Recorder For Main Play Back? i used a philips cdr 765 as a main cdp (both with and without a dac) for quite awhile and really liked it--read everything i threw at it + i could play two discs in succession. well built, nice sounding unit.
New reissue of Exile on Main Street FWIW, allmusic lumps "alt-country", "americana" and "neo-traditional folk" within the same subgenre, "alternative country", and generally defines these styles as country stripped to its basics and subverted; the unifying factor being that they're ...
Von Schweikert VR4 vs later models? the original vr4s sound bigger and more enveloping than the jrs, with more low end extension and a broader soundstage (although the jrs are scarcely deficient on either count). i haven't heard the (considerably pricier) vr5hse enough to comment. a... |
