Newbie Help with Speaker Choices
rancher--glad you got the energys and hope you enjoy them. for a sub, i'd buy a hsu stf--very musical and very good value at around $300--if you call them to order they'll generally knock off a few bucks.
Small Speakers for Small Room, Close to Back Wall?
i did a very similar search recently before settling on some focal cobalts. best near-wall speaker i heard in absolute terms was the paradigm signature s1; rega rs1 was also surprisingly good; i wasn't as impressed with the quad 11l or dynaudio xc...
AAD Q50 Speakers
aad is the latest venture of phil jones, who's something of a legend of speaker design--he was involved with acoustic energy, boston acoustics (when they were a major player) and platinum audio, and i think, soliloqy. his trademark is getting bass...
totem staff or model one signature
agree with dgaylin--model ones are superb; if you have a sub (or even if you didn't) they'd be my choice.
Need to buy used integrated about 800 dollars
zeta:those nad amps are troublesome buggers, aren't they? just scanning through the ads i see a cary ca1 for 850 and a couple of arcam diva/arcam fmj around 600.(i love my arcam alpha). any of those would be a considerable step-up from your nad. i...

Best Speakers new/used for around 2k
slinker, since you asked for input on your specific canditates, this joe blow offers the following:1. psb synchrony is a great, well-balanced speaker with no discernible flaws and a very good value. the pmcs are also very, very good, with excellen...
Share thoughts on Keith Jarrett
i'm in the ok-but-not great camp; he's a trailblazer in terms of popularizing the long-form solo concert thing, but there's a certain new-agey, samey quality to much of his voluminous output (plus the humming is a turnoff). he's technically profic...
What do you think about Magnepans 3.6R for me
i seriously considered splurging on the 3.6rs; ultimately i passed because i was too overwhelmed by what i deemed to be the necessity of popping for upgraded power amps and two more compatible subs. that said, they are awesome speakers--to my ears...
Power for Paradigm Studio 40 v4
as a big arcam fan, i'd personally look to change your preamp before i replaced the power amp. i have the alpha 9 integrated, which i believe has a substantially identical amp as your alpha 8, and i've gotten much better results using the arcam's ...
LSA1 Statement vs. PSB Synchrony 2B or 1B?
rebbi, it sounds like you answered your own question. coincidentally, there's a long current agon thread in which owners rave about their lsas, so much so that one would have to conclude that the lsas must be great as well. however, since you can'...
LSA1 Statement vs. PSB Synchrony 2B or 1B?
i haven't heard the lsas, but i know the psb-- as you experienced, the psbs are a great speaker by any measure. i personally would choose them or the quite similar sounding paradigm signature over anything i've heard in the
Name your lame duck artist........
tt, bong et. al. i love buckley, but i can see where he can be offputting on vinyl--he's very theatrical and emotive; like rufus wainwright or antony/johnsons there's a showtuney aspect to this music which can sound a bit fey if you're a rockhead ...
Name your lame duck artist........
iheard about that austin show--reportedly, she was all agitated about lance armstrong having only one testicle....
Best Song Intro
i always dug the guitar buildup at the start of "unsatisfied" by the replacements. also, the little riff that opens robyn hitchcock's "ny doll"--real purty.
