Turntable weight affects speed
The weight is 291.6 grams. so, @jea48, the speed should not have been affected by additional weight?  The power supply (claimed to maintain exceptionally accurate speed - designed by the Acoustic Signature designer - they seemed to use the ps on ...
what to do with a stereo that needs repair
Sell it real cheap as a mono amp, if you can.  Or, Box it, ship it, pay a big bill to repair it, list it, sell it (eventually) and maybe come out a few hundred bucks ahead. Your call.
Thanks to Paul McGowan
I didn’t realize Filipinos tended towards racism.
Amp Warranty Repair - What's an acceptable timescale for turnaround?
It isn’t the dealer’s fault, probably not the distributor’s either. But the Brand should be identified.
New Outlets Lead to Better Sounding and Tasting Coffee
@tomic601  speaking of survival, my backup coffee system, for hurricanes, when power is often lost, is a propane camp stove and hand grinder with a Hario cone and filters.  It would serve during a nuclear meltdown too, longer than I would.
New Outlets Lead to Better Sounding and Tasting Coffee
Erik, interesting!  I will try turning on the grinder first. You didn’t mention the type of grinder you use.
Will increasing speaker cable AWG make a difference in sound quality?
Why?  The current involved is miniscule.  It would decrease resistance but increase capacitance.
Digital Cable Recommendations
I've been using D60's for maybe 30 years.  Only cable I've owned that I've never been tempted to change.
Sensitivity 86 v 90
To answer the questions, I have been using PMC Fb1i Signature speakers. 2-way, 90 db sensitivity.  Went ahead and bought PMC Twenty5.26, 3-way at 86 db sensitivity.  Based on the cogent responses here, I am optimistic this will work out ok.  ph...
Sensitivity 86 v 90
Thanks for the explanations! My integrated amp (Rogers EHF 200 Mk 2) has 40 db of gain.  The volume control is turned up much less with signal from the dac, than while using the phono preamp, which I presume  means the dac has higher output; but ...
Analyzing DACs
Larry said, “I would guess Jason Borne would know how to answer this question. “ LOL.  I wouldn’t.
Made in USA
I stick with US amps and preamps and phono preamps, because repairability is important.  For example, I had my last (tube) amp for 25 years - had to send it back to the factory 3 times.     Hard to avoid asian gear on the digital side.
Audiphile Press: Am I jaded, experienced, or has it declined?
It's certainly true that the mags are less relevant to audiophile life than they once were.  The reviewers sometimes have useful insights into how to use a product, or its limitations, that I might not have figured out myself.    I like the ads! ...
Best Place for Bootleg Recordings?
@ tomcarr many of my favorite recordings are boots of live concerts.  For musicians who improvise (eg, Hendrix, SRV, Garcia, Knopfler, Willie) it makes all the difference in the world.     And most people in concert, even Crow,  stretch out song...
Finally everyone can enjoy good sounds at home with LG TV bars and Meridean speakers
I have an LG soundbar (around  $800) that I got primarily so I wouldn’t use my system for movies so much, i.e., to preserve tube life and have decent sound from the tv that my wife can operate.  The LG sounds pretty good until I turn on the main s...
