Do you play an instrument? Helps in speaker eval?
agree w Wolf on this one. I have not heard an audio system that gets everything equally right. Since I play a nylon string guitar, and particularly enjoy music on that instrument, I tend to gravitate towards system balance in which classical guita...
Volume?
what's the problem? having the volume control in the middle of its range is a good thing. Do you need it to be louder than it is at the maximum setting?it is true that some albums - cd's, too - are lounder than others.my cd player is much louder t...
What's your view on blind testing?
this has been beaten to death, search the arvhives if you like, but... agree w Kijanki. Extended listening is required for me. "properly conducted" is somewhere between very difficult and impossible. autiophiles' main issues are not whether indiv...
PMC vs. Salk Sound Speakers. Which is better?
My PMC Fb1i Signatures sound great. Considered Salk at the time, but the engineering behind the PMC's - a correctly designed transmission line enclosure - was obvioulsy beyond Salk's capabilities, which seem to be focused more on parts quality and...
can record skips be fixed?
thanks for the responses. ordinarily, I go looking for another copy. Will try the suggestions, since the records are more or less unplayable.
Stevie Ray Vaughan
there was a 6-lp set listed in the last Music Direct catalogue, but the 45 rpm set was 12 discs.

Agree that the records do not begin to capture the way SRV played live. Playing in large stadiums, as he did after going nationwide, is not like playing in a bar, where the blues belong. Stadium rock is more constrained, more pressure, less free. ...
"Not paypal"
You would be shocked how much trouble large amounts of cash can cause. The Feds assume it's a drug deal.
Stevie Ray Vaughan
That was said, but it wasn't even remotely true. SRV did his best, most inspired playing while drinking and coked up, playing in Texas bars. By the time he was sober he was playing big arenas, not taking chances and pushing the boundaries like he ...
Nakamichi ZX-7 Cassette Deck - - - Dubbing Problem
I can't say what is causing that issue, but Nak decks are complicated devices, a ZX-7 is pretty old, and yours needs a professional calibration, at the very least. send it to Willy Hermann.
Negative feedback Amp=more faithful reproduction?
NFB is a subtractive process, although as proved by GE long ago, it increases the perceived odd order harmonic distortion. NFB removes some of the signal, and not in real time, either, due to propagation delay within the amp. Although I prefer to t...
Negative feedback Amp=more faithful reproduction?
it's adjustable on my amp (Mesa Baron,) so it is easy to hear the differences. I have ears, so I do not really care about the technical rationale. Some music sounds better with a little NFB (primarily studio produced rock), but most music sounds b...
Triode mode vs pento mode
better bass w pentode, possibly with some hardness; lower power but more spacious sound with triode. with my amp, the larger scale works (e.g. symphonies) and rock usually sound better with some pentode dialed in; chamber music or small acoustic g...

Difference in quality in products made in China?
that must be why Samick guitars are not very good.
