I have a theory...
Trolling more like a Master Baiter than Master Tuner.
What companies, out of Business, did you LOVE???
Norman Laboratories and Phase Linear speakers.
Do I need bi amping?
@ oldhvymec, do I correctly understand that you digitize and control everything from 300hz on down w/ Behringer 2496, and run a tube amp straight into the tweeter input?
Do I need bi amping?
that passive preamp doesn't contain a crossover; you would only be using it to equalize the the volume of the two speaker lines; you'd still be running the full bandwidth signal through both amps and through all speaker wires, not getting the bene...
Do I need bi amping?
to fully implement oldhvymec's suggestion, wouldn't you need a crossover in front of both amps, such as the JL Audio CR-1, to relieve the LM from bass duties and the Hypex from mid on up?
Opening Record Store
Good advice above.  I agree with those above who question whether you would be buying anything more than a headache and a quick loss.     No reasonable businessman is looking for a record store in California to buy.  You might approach it in terms...
has anyone tried chinese cables?
Thanks to those who shared actual experiences.
smaller speakers for critical listening?
+1 Russ I still don’t understand why anyone would choose stand mounted mini’s, when a small tower takes up the same amount of floor space and has better, deeper, more realistic bass response.  The cost of good stands usually evens out the value pr...
Policy question: can I give away stereo equipment out here (asking for shipping)?
A friend of mine claimed to have gotten rid of all his Grateful Dead tapes.  Under pressure, he finally admitted, "Ok, I kept a few thousand."
To venture back into vinyl or not,...that is the question.
To exceed even moderately good modern digital with analogue is an expensive proposition.  It’s a big investment to buy a tt, phonopreamp, cables, cartridge, and records. Unless you already own a large record collection sitting in storage, don’t do...
Member Almarg passed away last night
Al was a real gentleman, and his posts were virtually authoritative.  His posts were never based on an unfounded opinion, and not infrequently, they were more like answers.  He was always polite while correcting others.  Greatly missed.
What isolation feet under your amp with great result?
I've tried various things, but so far, the hard rubber feet it came with worked best with my heavy tube amp - go figure.  As many above pointed out, it really is trial and error.  I like the suggestion above that good footers under the speakers mi...
Classical LP & CD Collection - How do You Sell When Record Stores Don't Want?
The record store owner was telling you the truth, there is virtually no market for classical lp recordings.  Notice he didn't even offer you ten cents per record?  No market at all for opera lp's. Not easy to even give them away, but you can try.
Question For Those In The Know About Audio Research Power Amps
Re: tube replacement costs. Apologies for the digression.when I bought a Mesa Baron c. 1996, they offered half-off the cost of new, matched tubes (I understand their tube-matching is second to none) to original owners. Not a trivial expense, with ...
