What are the best speakers you have ever owned and why? EgglestonWorks Viginti’s. Mikey likes them, too. Why? Sound quality that does everything I hoped for in a sub $50,000 speaker. I am pretty sure this is my last stop for speakers.Great sound, great build (right here in the U.S.A.), great company an...

Thinking about upgrading, but wondering about diminishing returns Thanks everybody. You know, when I posted this, I really wasn't sure what to expect. Safe to say that your collective responses have far exceeded by best hope for info. I have a lot of specific suggestions to work from now, and that's really gr...
Used Market Savings vs. The Dealer Experience I buy a mix of new/used/demo, based on the relationship I have with the dealer and the price of the gear.Goodwin's High End treated me very well on my pair of monoblocks.Spearit took great care of me for my previous set of speakers and my current ...
New Rega Planer 8 (P8) Turntable - Apheta 2 Cartridge Combo - Thoughts Congratulations on your RP8/Apheta 2 purchase. I own the RP10 with the Apheta 2 and like it. Originally, I purchased the RP6 with the Exact 2 cartridge and did not like that at all. Ultimately, I bought a NOS Apheta for the RP6 and it sounds mu...
Thinking about upgrading, but wondering about diminishing returns Wow! Thank you all for your help on my original post. Your responses have been very, very enlightening and helpful.I am definitely going to go with a dedicated circuit breaker and some high quality outlets. My electrician friend needs something...
Thinking about upgrading, but wondering about diminishing returns Thanks David. I understand that it's my decision, but being middle class makes $15,000 A LOT of money for me, as I suspect it is for at least some others. Maybe I can rephrase this as "what's the best bang for the buck" if I want to get a better...
Thinking about upgrading, but wondering about diminishing returns Jim, your initial comments sounded fine to me, as do your others. I appreciate your taking the time. I thought about a Dr. Feickert before I got the Rega, and may explore that further. Meanwhile, thanks so much for your VERY helpful comments.Ph...
Skeptic or just plain hard headed I think you are appropriately skeptical. Tubes, caps and resistor burn in, sure. Cable burn in? Not so much.
OPINIONS PLEASE - Phonostage for new Rega P8/Apheta 2 - Sutherland 20/20 or Allnic 1201 If you like your Pass Labs component now, I think you would like the XP15 (now discontinued) or the XP17 (its successor). You can find used XP15's on Audiogon for $2,500 periodically.Best decision I made was the Pass Labs XP15. It far outclassed...
My first PSB Speaker Purchase. Need some help. Synchrony One's are far superior to the T3's or the T2's. I have the old Status Gold i's that I have in my B system, and they still serve me well. When PSB went to the 3 x 7" woofers is when they went down hill (T3s).
Nature of the current used speaker market Folks, I fully understand that brick and mortar stores create value by having the skill to integrate components that create system synergy and great sound. I also value their skill to work on turntables and other tricky gear. But, with margins a...
The nightmare of the cartridge buyer... OK, so what do you guys and gals recommend for a cartridge on a Rega RP-10?Thanks
Any good reasons to use transistor phono stage and line level preamp instead of tube ? I have tube monoblocks and a tube preamp (Conrad Johnson), but went for a solid state phono stage (Pass Labs XP-15). For me, it strikes the best balance of price/performance and gives me a sound that I really like. Space is a bit of a considerat...
Personal vs. Market Values I like truffle oil, particularly on fries. I trust my taste buds and I trust my ears. Something that tastes really great is generally pretty apparent to me. I say "MMM, I like that." Something that sounds great to my ears elicits the same reaction... |
