Find the Cost of Freedom - Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - Four Way Street
Advice for upgrading my system
If you are auditioning speakers, I would suggest giving Maggie’s a listen.  I was sold on mine when listening to Brubeck, as the resolution is amazing.Good luck in your journey!
Had Three Different Speaker Thoughts; Now A Fourth
I think given the financial commitment you are going to make, that a road trip is in order.  If you have never heard Maggies, you definitely need to hear them.I say this because people often are drawn to them, or not.  In my case, I knew they were...
Why is science just a starting point and not an end point?
I have read perhaps 30% of this thread, so excuse me if this post is redundant.  I would like to suggest that science clearly has an effect that is demonstrable in many ways.  However, the complexity that cannot be quantified and is one of the pri...
An Urgent Hypothetical!
No hypothetical is urgent.
What Are Your Reference Discs? or Specific Reference Tracks
I want my system to play the music I love the best it can.  Why demo things you never listen to?For me, I want to hear Eva Cassidy sing Woodstock, Dave Brubeck et.al. play Take Five and listen to the drummer, and of course The Allman Brother “Live...
Old Amps that can still Kick Butt
I have a pair of  McIntosh 501 mono blocks, 18 years old and Still Kick Ass!  750 bench measured watts!  My Maggie’s love the current.
Why did you choose the components and speakers that are in your system?
I started my journey into high end with 3.6 Maggie’s.   They still remain the core of my system.  I went through a number of amps before  finding McIntosh MC501 mono blocks.  Maggie’s thrive on current and these amps made them very revealing.  Alo...
Tubes for Magnepan’s.
Maggie’s typically need a lot of current.  I have a tube preamp that I love and 750 measured wpc mono blocks running 3.6 Maggie’s.   IMHO you will need a mnmum of 150 wpc to drive smaller Maggie’s and more would be recommended,  Think about SS amp...
What is your favorite album cover?
AEwarren beat me to it,  but Electric Ladyland with all the topless girls in the early release (I have one from back in the day) and Cheap Thrills with all R. Crumb artwork do it for me!!
Favorite Guitar Solo
Duane Allman playing at the 6:30 of You Don't Love Me from the Live at the Fillmore album.  It is a soulful lyrical solo, no fast, but one that touches your soul.I experienced it live at the Syria Mosque in Pgh on that tour.  I still touches me 50...
Where are the young audiophiles?
I am 72 and bought my first separates system in 1969.  It consisted of a Sansui amp, Sansui tuner, (matched 555s), Dual 1019 turntable and Sansui Sp-100 speakers.  I added an AKAI R2R.  The cost was about $800 for all of it.I am not sure my curren...
Lack of Female Representation
I would suggest that women like great sound, but are not obsessed with finding that 1/10 of 1 percent gain for big $$$.  High quality audio is found in many ways,  if there is no testosterone driven need to be better than the other guy. They see th...
What Is The Most Romantic Song That You Have Ever Listen To?
John Lee Hooker and Bonnie Raitt, I am in the Mood!!
Do you care about car audio?
I have 2 cars that I drive.  One is a Mercedes E400 that has a delightful sound system.  The other is an Austin Healey Bugeye who sound system is a two barrel carb on a 948 engine into a very minimal muffler, always driven top down in Georgia.  It...
