Comments about Nottingham quirks
I can't think of any "quirks", except for having to spin the platter to start the table up. I haven't read the TAS review and probably won't. Can you be more specific?
Vibraplane vs. Minus k for Turntables
Whoops! I see above that sdlevine is an owner of a BM8 and likes it. Moreover, I erred in reporting the performance of the BM8, which is f = 0.5Hz in the vertical plane, as sdlevine says. I will have to struggle with my conscience over purchasing ...
Vibraplane vs. Minus k for Turntables
I had never heard of Minus K, until this thread. So thanks for putting it up. I just went to the Minus K website to check out their prices and specs. Seems like the BM8, which costs less than $3K, would be a good choice for most tt's, which tend t...
Triplanar Problem
Thankfully, Tri can still supply the metal one, originally designed and supplied by Herb Papier, which locates the tonearm via the spindle to pivot distance directly (at least Tri was able to send me one, after I lost mine). That's probably the on...
Triplanar Problem
I think there may be too much play in the lucite jig, especially when the tonearm mounting platform is significantly below the plane of the platter/spindle. Anyway, that seemed to be the source of the inaccuracy of my jig. Sorry if I was redundant...
Triplanar Problem
Doug, you wrote, "2.a. that adjustment beneath the VTA tower was mis-set by the manufacturer or altered by somebody. This is a job for Tri-Mai unless you're feeling brave. There's only one correct position and it's unclear to me (doing this from m...
Vintage Denon Direct Drive Turntable
(1) I have done the thought experiment as regards threading the slate. I don't think it would work. I am not going to try. I think the only choice with slate is to just drill a hole thru and then use a nut and bolt. There IS some appeal to the ide...
Building high-end 'tables cheap at Home Despot II
If any former Lenco-Lover has copied Peter's photos showing how he assembles the PTP3, I would be most grateful if they could be pasted in here or in Lenco Heaven. Maybe Peter would re-post them himself. Also, the threads on adjusting, restoring, ...

Treehugga, The weight of all that slate so dwarfs the weight of the DP80 chassis that the latter is irrelevant. The big thing is how to couple the DP80 to all that mass, so it can do some good. Are you going to drill all the way through both layer...

Probably Gadfly.

I did, too. It finally worked.
Vintage Denon Direct Drive Turntable
Good answer. I don't really believe there is any one "best" drive system either. Perhaps one may be more cost-effective than another, but that's about it. (Up to say $3000, I think you can beat out most BDs with any of several DDs or idler set-ups...

Hi Peter, What's up with your bearing assembly project? Given the large positive effect that the Kokomo bearing reportedly has on the sound of the Garrard 301, I am waiting with bated breath for your new Lenco bearing.
SOTA Millennia - Comments?
Meantime, doesn't anyone want to beat me up for my comments on the Star Sapphire III and the implication that the Cosmos (moreso than the Millenia, which would be my choice of Sota products) might have a similar sound? This kevlar armor is getting...
Air Tight Supreme compared to PC-1
Siddh, In regards to your question, I have yet to hear an Airtight cartridge at all, on any system let alone my own. As regards J Valin's review, all I can say is that he's done it again. He is a master of the superlative. Altho I am perfectly wil...
