The pivoted arm experiment is over
Ddriveman, It is interesting that you learned to lift the front of the table. I did find some old posts on Vinyl Asylum recommending the same strategy. But the majority were for lifting the rear. When I thought about it, lifting the front end woul...
The pivoted arm experiment is over
I did some web searching since posting my question. It seems that the lateral balance weight is mostly made necessary by the S-shaped or J-shaped arm tubes prevalent on the vintage Japanese tonearms, because such shapes put most of the tonearm mas...
The pivoted arm experiment is over
Dear DT, My Dynavector DV505 has the lateral balance weight, too. And after I became familiar with it, I began to notice that this was a feature on many of the best Japanese tonearms of the 80s and 90s. However, that feature seems to have vanished...
Grand Prix Audio Monaco Turntable
Aaron, I think a math calculation would show you are absolutely correct. But since we all are listening to these imperfect bits of software, the demonstrable (to most of us) differences in sound among turntables shows that we have the ability to d...
Is There An "Absolute" Best Cartridge?
Dear Raul, Sometimes I write things just to stimulate discussion, but I am also "hampered" in a way by my training as a scientist. In real science, nothing should be subjective; in audio, we are usually left with subjective judgements, and we cann...
Is There An "Absolute" Best Cartridge?
Raul, You have an endless reservoir of self-confidence. This will overcome any amount of self-doubt. But you certainly have changed your mind quite a bit over the course of those 2000+ posts that you have in part stimulated. This is your perfect r...
Which TT to keep? SP10, 124, 301, L75, B12H
You have to keep two, Technics and either Lenco or Garrard. Keeping all 3 would be better, but I think this is a hypothetical question anyway. I listen to jazz most of the time, big bands a lot.
Is There An "Absolute" Best Cartridge?
I agree with your implication that rapid evaluations are fruitless, DU. I take at least a month or two with each cartridge. That's why so far I have only gone thru the Azden and the Ortofon. I completely agree, at least for me, that snap judgement...
Is There An "Absolute" Best Cartridge?
Dowunder, I want it. Really. Your pal, Lew
Is There An "Absolute" Best Cartridge?
Dear DT. Thank you for the kind invitation to meet up with you in Munich. However, I have a tendency to forget that my government places stringent rules on international travel by its employees, of which I am one. Under those rules, I can only vac...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Dave and I communicate frequently. He is liking the Pickering XSV3000 quite a bit. I did not see his review of the Acutex.
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Raul, Do you have an opinion on the LP Tunes stylus assembly vs van den Hul rebuild? I guess you would favor vdH, because I know you do use them a lot, but if you know anything about the LP Tunes stylus, that would be of interest too.The Acutex, l...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
I was lucky enough (IMO) to win a Stanton 980LZS cartridge on eBay last night. The seller says the cantilever is "straight" and that the stylus looks to be in good shape, but I am prepared for the worst. Does anyone (Raul?) know anything about the...
Can a broken leg from a tube be soldered and used?
By the way, pin 4 is the single "plate" connection. Pin 5 connects to both grids, and pin 3 connects to both cathodes. Despite the presence of dual grids and cathodes, this is not a dual section tube, because it has only one plate. The other pins ...
Can a broken leg from a tube be soldered and used?
Dangerous to just take a chance that the missing leg is irrelevant. In fact, as far as I know, there is NO irrelevant pin on a 6C33C. Anyone who told you that is "blowing smoke". Here is the pin diagram URL. I believe pin 4 is the single large dia...
