A Copernican View of the Turntable System
Hey Chris,You can always elevate your turntable by putting some big tall feet under it, to enable you to use a more massive pod. How about that Vyger turntable? The pod would be 4 feet high or so, judging from photos. In brass, that would be signi...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Dear Banquo, Thank you for your response. I must say I don't understand why you cannot identify the tonearm in question, unless you heard the "muddy bottom end, etc" at a friend's house, and he cannot provide the info. Sorry to bug you, but it wou...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Hi Banquo, Sorry for your klutziness but it happens to us all once in a while. You wrote, "The cart had a muddy bottom end that drove me crazy, and it was deficient in dynamics." In what tonearm?
OTL Tube Amp for Maggie 3.6?
Dear Ahendler, I cannot tell whether anyone else has already pointed this out to you. You concede that the Zero is an autoformer (not a transformer) and then you bemoan the idea of using one because you would be sticking a "transformer" in the sig...

No matter how you set it up, it will be of great interest to me to learn what you think of the SP10, in light of the pantheon of great turntables you have at your disposal.

Dear Thuchan, If you find that you enjoy the SP10 MkII but would like to get more out of it, you might consider the Panzerholz plinth made by Albert Porter, the Steve Dobbins treatment (removes the motor assembly from the chassis, etc) or a slate ...

Mine has got to be 25-30 years old and does have a small brush attached to the inside of the cap, just like Caig stuff. (I doubt I could find the Cramolin in my large house if I wanted it, but it always turns up when I am not looking for it.)
A Copernican View of the Turntable System
Thuchan, I assume you know this, but in case not, thread size is M5. What material(s) are you using to build your plinth?

Sometimes we have a good and interesting result and an attractive explanation for it, but they don't always really go together. This happens all the time in science.
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Because I use the supplied brush for applying Cramolin, and probably also because I used it to enhance the electrical contacts in my old Porsches (6V systems that needed all the V they can get), my original bottle of Cramolin is so filthy with jun...
AUDIO RESEARCH D-76A
Dear Torogi,I don't see where you say you have any problem with how the amp sounds. It is highly improbable that it could operate properly if indeed those tubes were not firing up. It is often difficult to see the glow from a tube; have you looked...
A Copernican View of the Turntable System
Dear Corby, I did not at all mean to imply that you cannot adjust azimuth in the manner you have chosen, using the Foz or any other method. But if you do it that way, leaving aside the argument about whether or not the base of the tonearm should i...
A Copernican View of the Turntable System
Corby, That's quite beautiful work. Do you mean to imply that you adjust azimuth by tilting the whole apparatus via the screw-threaded spikes at the base? Don't you think it's important to have the arm base (=the outboard pod) in a plane parallel ...

To paraphrase the bandit in "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre", you don' need no stinkin' viscoelastic support.(He said, "Badg-es? We don' need no stinkin' badg-es.")This is only my opinion, of course. At least try it both ways, turntable and armpo...
How is LAMM LP2 compares to the more recent phono
If you are doing a private "A/B" comparison in the context of your own system, it is always a good idea to do "A/B/A". In other words, if you are familiar with A, then listen to B for a while until you really are used to it. Then switch back to A ...
