TriPlanar Tips I think what happened with this thread was that Doug fell in love with the Talea, understandably, and he was the driving force here. Plus, there are only so many accoutrements that one can remove from the Triplanar before one is left with a bag of...
Some tables have soul and some not Art Dudley has never really changed. However, he is recently in love with Garrard and Thorens and out of love with Linn LP12. (In_shore, "Linn Ittok" is a tonearm. The turntable is "LP12".) But as recently as last year, Art Dudley scoffed at all d...
Turntable speed accuracy Dear Raul, I did not mean to imply that I KNOW that the Timeline is miscalibrated. I was just musing after Timeltel's correction of Catastrofe's calculation that in truth the time for one revolution, if the speed is 33.333.... would be slightly mo...
Turntable speed accuracy It's actually 1.80018... I think it's a repeating number. Let's hope Mr. Sutherland set his timing thus. Otherwise, the instrument is off by .00018 sec per revolution. Apparently this much error would drive some of us crazy or to a new turntable.
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC? In the context of the old Decca cartridges, the conical version certainly was thought by most to be superior to its elliptical counterpart. I don't recall the model name for the conical/spherical one that HP so adored, but I bought the elliptical ...
Turntable speed accuracy Dear Henry, What about listening? When you set the table up using the KAB vs using the Timeline, were there any audible differences? If the KAB was that far off, on the slow side, you ought to have heard it in the form of pitch distortion and/or r...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC? Does anyone here agree with the notion that a spherical tip is optimum for a stereo cartridge? I have no doubt it is a good way to go for mono.I owned a London Decca and used it for a few years. I don't remember selling it, so maybe it is buried i...
What constitutes a "high output" moving coil cart? I third what Nsgarch wrote regarding HOMCs vs the best of the MM and MI variety.
Some tables have soul and some not I think you (Inna) are conflating "soul" with what Harry Pearson first called a "dark" sound. And having owned a Notts Hyperspace, I can agree that on that basis the Notts had soul. I am going to guess that tt's with big heavy platters and belt dr...

marantz 10b and 10b tubes Some very common tube types are readily available anywhere. However, most of the tues in the 10B are relatively esoteric. If you do a google search on the tube type(s) you need, you will typically get a list of vendors. Then you can contact each o...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC? I think once the CIA and MI5 have investigated this, we will learn that all cartridges in the world are built and repaired by a single gnome who lives on a mountaintop somewhere in the Alps (if you find out exactly where, he has to kill you), plus...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC? The same guy who told me that ES does at least some of the work for vdH also told me that they will not install the paratrace on cartridges sent to them by parallel companies; paratrace is only for private individuals who go directly to ES for the...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC? Thanks, Don and others, for your response. I have heard that Expert Stylus does great work. Since I, like most of you, own many cartridges, it would be no big deal to part with one for several months, if it needed repair. As I understand it, Exper...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC? Don,You wrote, "...back in June, I emailed Expert Stylus to have a cantilever/stylus replacement done." But when did you actually send them your cartridge? Just out of curiosity, what cartridge was it and what did they do to it that took 6 months ... |
