FR66s vs Ikeda IT-407 CR tonearms Thanks, Ddrive. I guess there is a Krebs mod in my future; I own one "unit" of SP10 Mk3 that has been thoroughly updated and mounted in a massive slate and cherry wood plinth. I can hear a qualitative difference between it and my Kenwood L07D that...
FR66s vs Ikeda IT-407 CR tonearms Ddrive, You have a severe case of audiophilia nervosa, but so too do all of us. The differences among the tonearms you mention are in all probability minuscule compared to the differences among cartridges and the differences in the amount of audio...
FR66s vs Ikeda IT-407 CR tonearms Whether the FR66S is transcendent or not, at least some of the impetus behind the rising prices is collector driven. This does not mean that the FR66S is not great. But you are right, Ddrive, to keep an open mind vs the Ikeda. I am satisfied mysel...
FR66s vs Ikeda IT-407 CR tonearms If Dertonearm performed the work, I am sure it was done to the highest standard. I knew he liked the Ikeda silver wire, was not aware of the Kondo option, but I have some Kondo silver tonearm wire I purchased for another project (the Kenwood L07J ...
FR66s vs Ikeda IT-407 CR tonearms Ddriveman, What wire was in your FR66S to begin with, copper or silver? What wire did you use to re-wire? I don't mean to disrespect your observational powers, but listener bias is such that I doubt anyone is capable of "hearing" that the sound is...
FR66s vs Ikeda IT-407 CR tonearms Most people who have heard both would tend to agree with Syntax. As to the wiring, whether it is copper or silver in the Ikeda, I think it is explicitly sold according to the internal wiring chosen; the silver wire version is more expensive than t...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC? Acman et al, I once spoke to Peter Ledermann about this issue of P mount adapters. SS do in fact make adapters for B&O cartridges, probably because there many B&O cartridges in circulation that have become separated from their original ada...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC? Someone, maybe SoundSmith should make an adapter out of metal. SS do sell an adapter for the very high price of $50, but I know nothing about its build quality. Anyone?
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC? For "live" in the first sentence of my second para, read "like", of course. Too bad one cannot edit one's own posts.
The Arm/Cartridge Matching Myth I would only place upper and lower limits on Halcro's proposition; it would not be a great idea to use a very high mass tonearm with a very high compliance cartridge, simply because of the resulting flexing of a very compliant cantilever which mig...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC? I've also got an Empire 1000ZE/X, with NOS stylus. That was an early favorite here, for about a month. It then faded from discussions. I have more that I cannot even recall off the top of my head.My B&O is NOS. What I don't live about it in pr...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC? Since I've had my Beveridge speakers up and running, I have become fascinated with direct-drive for ESLs. Your discussion (Fleib and Kevin) makes me wonder whether the Acoustat X amplifiers could be adapted to run my Sound Lab 845PXs. 5kV might be...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC? Sorry for 3 straight posts on this off-topic subject, but I just looked up the specs of the Acoustat X direct-drive amplifier. It operates at 5000V (5kV), not 50kV. That makes sense. Should have used Google in the first place.
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC? Should have added that it is entirely possible the Acoustat X operates at circa 10kV, but not 50kV for sure.
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC? Dear 3ox (and Fleib),I think your point was well taken. It is not likely that the Acoustat X speaker, to which Fleib refers, could stand 50kV on its stators for more than a few seconds before a spectacular explosion might occur. Typical DC voltage... |
