VPI Analogue Drive System
melm is correct about the Sutherland.  It's a record weight with a strobe built into it.  The only commercially available add-on device that can really "control" the speed of a belt- or idler-drive turntable is/was the Phoenix Engineering Falcon o...
Yamaha GT 2000 vs new SL Need advice.
Based on specifications only, these are two very comparable turntables, both with coreless motors that I prefer. In my opinion, if you have your GT2000 fully restored electronically and then calibrated by one of the rare breed that can do it right,...
Linear tracking vs. Pivoted tracking tone arms.
RJM, There are adapters to convert a P-mount tonearm to use non-Pmount cartridges.  Usually, they are inexpensive.  Check with Sound Smith for a good one.  eBay for a cheap one.
High mass vs Low Mass Turntables - Sound difference?
13blm, I like to find consensus, but maybe in fact we don't agree.  All that goo provides dampening mainly, and probably some friction too, but I think the WT claim for very low friction (but not no friction) may be accurate.  My point was that in...
High mass vs Low Mass Turntables - Sound difference?
10timps, For decades I have listened to the oft repeated claims of Well Tempered philes to the effect that the tonearm has "no bearing".  To this claim, I put the question, "Does the arm pivot?"  The answer is yes it does. Therefore it must have a...
When is it time to consider adding a SUT?
Raul and I are more often than not on opposite sides of controversies like this one.  However, in this case, we are on the same page. On the other hand, I could well imagine that a tube phono stage with marginal gain when matched to a particular L...
Klyne 7PX question
Nandric, How do you like the Klyne in comparison to your other high end solid state phono stage? I find my tweaked 6LX to be first rate as a linestage and therefore great when coupled with one of my preferred tube phono stages.  But as a stand alo...
why do some turntables have multiple tonearms?
Interesting to note that this thread lay dormant for seven years.  Maybe because the possible responses are so obvious.  The OP's question is almost in the nature of a troll.  Anyway, my response is "Duh!".
Pani ... New ART-9 up and running ...
Or add a resistance in parallel with the 300K resistor that would bring the net resistance down to 100K.  150K ohms would do it.
Pani ... New ART-9 up and running ...
Pani, You could replace the 300K ohm resistor with 100K ohms, or have Dave do it for you.  Then the cartridge would "see" a 250 ohm load. Easy, peasie.
Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?
Thanks, Peter.  I will look forward to seeing photos of the DP80 mechanicals in the DN308-type plinth.
Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?
Peter, You seem to have taken a very different tack with the DN308 as compared to the DP80, in terms of the design philosophy behind the two very different plinths.  The DN308 plinth seems to have a hollow interior, whereas the DP80 plinth (from p...
Pani ... New ART-9 up and running ...
Cool_jeeves, When you went from 100 to 30 ohms load, was there a subjective loss of gain from the cartridge, which is to say, did you have to turn up the volume a bit in order to get the same sound pressure levels in your room?  I ask because I th...
What kind of lamp to use with a stroboscopic disc?
Thanks for telling us about the app, brf.  I would never have thought to check for an app.  If you are too non-tech to go that route, the no-brainer solution is to buy the hand-held, battery powered strobe from KAB.  Along with their strobe disc, ...
GLANZ MFG 610LX
Could it have been frozen in the arctic tundra, next to a Wooly Mammoth? Another victim of climate change?  Perhaps the cold temperatures preserved it as new.
