Getting The Most Out Of A Koetsu Urushi
I think if you re-read the posts above, you will find answers to at least some of your questions. (You seem to have added a few in this last post.)  Now that you have made it more clear that you prefer to use the Liberty phono stage, I suggest you...
Getting The Most Out Of A Koetsu Urushi
Sorry. I wrote: "Your internal argument seems to be based on wanting to provide less of a load resistance..."  Actually, you want a higher load R which is less of a load. Hence the confusion of my earlier sentence.  The higher the value of the loa...
Getting The Most Out Of A Koetsu Urushi
Dear Quincy, Contrary to your assertion, the Urushi and other Koetsu's have a rather "high" output signal voltage, compared to many other expensive LOMC cartridges.  It's from 0.4 to 0.6mV, depending upon which stylus velocity you use as standard....
Listening impressions of two tonearm wires
My opinion is that words are words.  In the end, one really has to rely upon one's own opinion of any audio gear, when installed in one's own system.  I have auditioned many items once loved by HP. Through this experience, I learned that HP's desc...
Getting The Most Out Of A Koetsu Urushi
Thanks, Nandric.  I too do not subscribe rigidly to the "rules" about matching cartridge compliance to tonearm effective mass, but just like the rumor that the Urushi is a painted Rosewood, there is a rumor that the FR64S is a really good match wi...
Getting The Most Out Of A Koetsu Urushi
Nandric, Where have you ever heard or read that the Urushi is a "painted Rosewood"?  That runs completely contrary to all that I have read about the two models, as regards their respective sonic characteristics.  When it was introduced in fact, th...
Getting The Most Out Of A Koetsu Urushi
There are a lot of questions contained in your two paragraphs, and I cannot take the time to sort them all out, but I have owned a Koetsu Urushi for about 10 years.  I have used it exclusively with a phono stage that has enough gain such that I do...
Cartridges: Complete Scam?
Larry, Some speakers DO suck, obviously.  Madavid, You don't HAVE to do a damn thing, if it irks you.  Among the rest of us, you will have launched yet another sidebar on what protractors are used, if any, how often one adjusts or checks adjustmen...
Cartridges: Complete Scam?
Madavid is now living under an assumed name in Uruguay or Moldavia. My feelings as regards the last few posts between Luiz and Chakster is that both are correct.  Based on my admittedly limited experience there IS a big difference between "low cost...
Cartridges: Complete Scam?
"Whether", not "wether".  Unless there's a change in the weather.Otherwise, this thread is just BS.
Cartridges: Complete Scam?
Next time you find an SP10 Mk3 in a dumpster, call me immediately and I will have it removed to a safe place in my house, at no cost to anyone. No, it is not anyone's contention that "all modern engineering techniques and materials have little to n...
Age old discussion I know but MM or MC? Benefits?
lohanimal, What was "different" about the MMC series of cartridges from B&O?  I think of them as "not MC" (MM or MI without having done any research).  I ask this out of genuine ignorance.  I own an MMC2.  Thanks.
Age old discussion I know but MM or MC? Benefits?
REG of TAS has forever been a proponent of MM cartridges over MC types.  This is not to say he is wrong, just to say that he has a longstanding bias that he maintained even when HP was gushing over every new LOMC entry from Japan, back in the 70s ...
Age old discussion I know but MM or MC? Benefits?
A further thought.  In your price range, which is to say at $600 and below, you might consider the Denon 103 or the Hana SL.  Other than those two, I would suggest an MM or an MI, because there you get more bang for the buck.
Age old discussion I know but MM or MC? Benefits?
If you wait nine more years, you may have had the honor of starting your own 13K-post thread.  Because you have in a way re-stated Raul's question.  You cannot expect others to tell you what cartridge you will like.  Period. That's just for starte...
