review iPhono 2
Audiofun, Thank you for the well written and "intelligent" review.  While I was already aware of the iPhono2 and have recommended it to others on a budget, because of Fremer's praise for it, I was not aware of the iTube2.  Just now, I Googled it, ...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Chakster, My comment is to note that the units on those charts of FR are 0.1 db.  None of us would ever hear 0.2 db (the rise in response seen in the R channel with 100K ohm loading), at those very high frequencies.  Maybe this is not the right wa...
Tube Help--I'm trying to make sense of the codes on this tube.
tomcy6, Thank you for the very educational response.
Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?
No, SP10 Mk3 is not coreless. It's a massive 24-pole motor.  I never heard any "problem" with it, but it definitely sounds more coherent, musical, or smooth (pick your adjective) after having undergone the Krebs mod, which is directed at the tende...
Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?
Halcro, I am not sure what you are reporting.  Do you perceive that your TT81 outperforms the TT101, compared even to how the TT101 sounded before the power outage? Or are you saying that this observation is in relation to how the TT101 performed ...

CT0517, I have no dog in this fight, which is to say I am only guessing that the problem IS airborne.  I certainly could be wrong, since my opinion is based only on the paragraph submitted by the OP.  But can you say why you think the problem IS N...

Totem, You wrote, "Start with implementing room treatments rather thanapplying this or that band-aid."  Isn't there an internal contradiction in that sentence?  Some would classify room treatments as a bandaid. Not that there's anything wrong with...
Do you think you need a subwoofer?
Thanks, Noble. I did find the Romeyn website for the Debra, by searching on "Audiokinesis Debra", oddly. As you note, they are similar in price and very similar in composition.  So this begs the question, why are two different and so similar produ...
Feedback through turntable
No cover.  The cover itself will resonate, if the issue is airborne, and could make matters much worse.  As a general rule of thumb, I would never ever use a cover during play.  The stylus/LP interaction itself elicits vibrations that are best dis...
Mono questions
Odd. I wonder why I have original Capitol issues of "Something Cool" with June Christy, both the mono and stereo versions.  It takes 5 minutes of listening to know that these are two entirely different recording sessions.  She doesn't even attempt...
Feedback through turntable
I am not sure I agree with all the discussion about what is and is not a good isolator, BUT in this case I think the problem is air-borne vibration, not mechanical from a shaky floor up through the stand and the shelf.
Mono questions
Folkfreak is correct in noting that back in the early 60s, studios frequently staged two sessions, in one of which they recorded in mono and in the other, in stereo. In those cases, the two recordings can never sound exactly the same. But I don’t ...
$5,000 to spend for analog front end - advice please...:)
For $3K to $4K and with some patience, you can find a Kenwood L07D in very good shape. That will include its tonearm (L07J) and a state of the art plinth (despite the fact that the L07D was built in the early 80s.) Assuming the previous owner perf...
Feedback through turntable
Just by bad luck, your turntable may be sitting in an energy hotspot, despite your best efforts to avoid feedback.  Sometimes moving the turntable a few feet from where it is sitting will make the difference.  Trial and error.  Re-positioning the ...
Do you think you need a subwoofer?
Tim (Noble100)We are on the same page.  However, I would be doing it for the gain in bass definition and overall frequency balance, more than to relieve my primary amplifiers of any stress.  The 845PX's normally use a 6db/octave passive crossover ...
