ADC 26 BEST PRITCHARD CARTRIDGE EVER? or BEST CARTRIDGE EVER?
I don’t know for sure where ADC cartridges were manufactured, but I do recall back in the 70s that the ADC XLM and itS progenitors were much much cheaper in the US than in Europe. In fact at one point when I had to go to London for a scientific c...
Koetsu Rosewood - Best/safest way to clean stylus
I used LAST for many years with no problems. But then I got a very nice table top microscope. Examining the stylus tip after cleaning by various methods  reveals to me that magic eraser is much better. However , I think it would be very dangerous ...
Ugh....dropped the stylus on the platter
Forgeddaboudit.Although this is a good excuse to replace that Sumiko.
Is a PTP Solid 12 (Lenco) worthy of a $5k cartridge

Dodge, I bought my L75 NOS only about 10 years ago for $300.  You can still buy a mint L75 for $500 or less.  The motor will run forever, and if it doesn't, there's a huge source of information on how to rebuild them on Lenco Lovers website.  Ever...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
For every phono stage I have ever examined, the "re-work" requires de-soldering the 47K resistors and then soldering 100K resistors in their place.  That does require removing the top of the chassis for access. Gold Note understandably wants to di...

Slim, Can easily and cheaply be modified from 47K to 100K.

Halcro, If there were deficiencies in the FR tonearm vs the Dynavector, would they be audible via a Youtube quality recording of playback?  I am dubious.  However, I share your rejection of Raul's constantly repeated criticism of the FR tonearms. ...
Is a PTP Solid 12 (Lenco) worthy of a $5k cartridge
I have no further comments. You’d have to do the listening yourself, since quietness and transparency are never measured by those who use those terms when discussing turntables.

Pani, Contrary to your statement that a souped up Lenco would fall short of a top flight BD, I’d say it’s on par with any BD below $25K. Above $25K, the Lenco would be equal to or superior to many; you’d have to make case by case comparisons. Also...
Does removing anti-skating really improve sound?
millercarbon,How do you set up a tangential tracker with overhang?  I would call that condition a "bad job" in setting it up, not an optional method. (I'm sure you would too.) Actually, that's one of the dirty little secrets of tangential trackers...
Is a PTP Solid 12 (Lenco) worthy of a $5k cartridge
Hard to describe precisely the improvement with Phoenix stuff, because I went from the Walker Audio Motor Controller, which is already pretty good but has no feedback mechanism to control or monitor speed, to Phoenix.  I'd say it improves SQ to so...
Is a PTP Solid 12 (Lenco) worthy of a $5k cartridge
I own five turntables. Among them are direct drives that are considered the top of the vintage Japanese turntables including an SP 10 mark 3 and a Kenwood L07D. I also own a highly modified version of the Lenco. It is not the PTP direct product, ...
Does removing anti-skating really improve sound?
Cleeds, with no friction of the stylus in the groove, there is no skating force. Head shell offset angle is one cause of lack of tangency to the groove that from a vector force point of view gives rise to the force that pulls the stylus tip toward...
Do MC's Need Time To Wake Up?
I agree that MC cartridges do you need time to wake up. They need time to wake up if they are brand new or have very low hours on them, and they need time to wake up if they have been sitting around and not used for several weeks or more. I am not...
