Recommendations for MM Phono ~ Tube or Solid State
Guys who favor SETs often use SUTs, in my experience.  Maybe it's about the similar acronyms. Anyway, I apologize for questioning your logic. I started 50 years ago by realizing I love ESLs, then worked backward from the speakers to what amplifier...
Recommendations for MM Phono ~ Tube or Solid State
Never seen a Modwright phono stage, inside or outside.  I am guessing you think it is more complex than an Aric MM stage, about which I also know nothing.
What is the preferred cartrige mm or mc and why
"MC cartridges have a lower moving mass than MM cartridges, which accounts for most of the attributes that I like over MM." This little tidbit or variations thereof is repeated over and over again, but where are any data to support it?  It seems ...
How To Control The Eager Beaver
I agree with Larry in that I think the stylus is sliding on the raised lip. That plus too low a setting of VTF could result in the observed problem. But I would also point out that the skating force does pull the stylus inward toward the label, so...
Recommendations for MM Phono ~ Tube or Solid State
I think that's a direct quote from "Oklahoma", music by Rodgers and Hammerstein.

The farmer and the cowhand can be friends.
Recommendations for MM Phono ~ Tube or Solid State
Keep in mind that I have chosen to use high gain phono stages for LOMC cartridges, but not based on principle, based on listening to the particular phono stages I've chosen. flattire, I am not sure what is your point in saying you will choose an ...
Need Simple, Easy-to-Use "Goof Proof" Audio Headshell Recommendation
That's nice, but one issue with it is that when you loosen that set screw to adjust for overhang, you have to be very careful not to twist the headshell and thereby alter azimuth.  They ought to build in a guide on the barrel, so you can do one wi...
Recommendations for MM Phono ~ Tube or Solid State
I think I posted earlier that the first time I became aware of MC cartridges was in the mid 70s, when the Supex cartridge came into the US market. The problem was that few of the existing phono stages had sufficient gain. Within no more than a yea...
McIntosh MT5 tonearm swap out?
Balanced operation properly executed is bound to be marginally quieter than SE operation, all other things being equal, because of Common Mode Rejection, if for no other reason.  That difference may or may not be audible if SE operation is already...
Need Simple, Easy-to-Use "Goof Proof" Audio Headshell Recommendation
Keep in mind that adjustable azimuth, which everyone seems to demand, carries with it the opportunity to maladjust azimuth. In the hands of an amateur, that can happen believe it or not. This results in aberrant stylus wear and distortion. I othe...
McIntosh MT5 tonearm swap out?
All tonearms can be wired for balanced operation if that’s your goal, including whatever comes with the MT5.
TechDas Speed Issue
You need your dealer or TechDas to get involved.  There are no electronics geniuses here, much less even a run of the mill EE. I guess you should do the obvious checks, like is anything dragging on the platter?
Phono preamp hum
It's equally possible that by removing and replacing the tube, in your scenario, you improved contact at one or another tube pins, thereby curing hum that had nothing to do with the tube itself.
Tonearm Mfg's mistake
The Feickert protractor costs about $300 and will work for you for the rest of your overhung pivoted tonearm life, no matter what tonearm you may ever use. (And you can probably have one within a day or two from now, shipped within the US from any...
