List of plinth builders for Technics SP10 MK3
For two tone arms, I think you might consider building a plinth that encloses the motor only. In other words, get rid of the rectangular escutcheon that sits on top of the surface of most plinths for the mk2 and mk3. Once you get rid of the escutc...
200g vinyl, more static?
Last time I looked, electrons were subatomic "particles".  Otherwise, I still am dubious that the static charge is created by the stylus in the groove.  But I confess I have no conclusive evidence to the contrary except the white paper published y...
200g vinyl, more static?
I've been thinking about this interesting question, and it's very possible I am wrong in my analysis. If anyone has more data that pertains to LP thickness and static charge accumulation, please jump in.
Arm Board source for Technics SL1000 MK2/MK3
You can probably get one custom made by Colby Lamb, out of aluminum, brass, or delrin, etc. Colby is located in Oregon, but the geography has never been a problem for me on the East Coast.  I cannot overstate the quality of his work and the care w...
200g vinyl, more static?
Purity of the vinyl or lack of purity may have some effect, probably does, but please quote something more authoritative than a magazine article if you want me to believe thickness makes a difference. The static charge consists of ionized particle...
Cartridge repair by Moscow based Roman??
Great post by Chakster. I agree totally, for whatever that’s worth.
Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?
Yes, I think the BA website is kaput, last time I looked.  They were either bought or went out of business, for some reason.  One person suggested they had a lot of trouble manufacturing that mat, maybe because it may tend to be brittle and to fra...
Eminent Technology LFT-8b in Harry's system
I've only heard the Maggies cum ribbon tweeter in audio salons or at hi-fi shows, but the improvement is obvious, for midrange and treble, in every way.  I think I subsequently owned the Tympani IIIs, with the huge woofer panels sitting in between...
Where is dougdeacon?
It’s the internet.Get used to it.

JGH had it right so far as I am concerned. HP had it wrong although he eventually pointed out the midrange deadness I think.
Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?
The Mat1 is thinner than the Mat2.  That alone may account for any differences in performance.  I own both versions, and indeed I prefer the Mat2.  I don't know why it might sound a touch better to my ears except for its greater mass; thickness is...
200g vinyl, more static?
Static charge sits only on the surface of an LP.  Since 200g LPs have the same surface area as do any other standard size LPs, I see no reason to expect that 200g LPs would carry any more (or less) static charge than those of standard size.
Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?
Chakster, You yourself quoted the following: "By incorporating different carbon graphite material, we successfully achieved the identical performance of Mat 2 with less thickness (4 mm) and the reduced price."So since the thickness of the Mat2 i...

I owned Tympani 1Us, purchased right after they hit the market with rave reviews from HP and others. I set them up right next to my homebrew KEF/RTR speakers described here in 2017. It was no contest; my speakers blew away the Tympanis in every wa...

I hardly think the SS300 is the second best mat of all time, if the SOTA mat you reference were to be the named best of all time.  But you've made your own opinion clear.  Like I said about my own current preference, the BA Mat2 is generally a smi...
