Direct Drive vs. Idler Drive vs. Belt drive
When naming DD turntables with 20-lb platters and heavier, I neglected to include Mike's NVS and probably the Rockport Sirius, but I can no longer recall whether the Rockport was DD.  Also, any of Dobbins' variations on the SP10 Mk3 theme.  There ...
Direct Drive vs. Idler Drive vs. Belt drive
If the Brinkmann has a 20-lb platter, that would make it a heavyweight among direct-drive turntables.  Only the SP10 Mk3 and probably the SP10R platters would be similar in weight.  Therefore, the Brinkmann must have a relatively powerful motor, a...
How good is the Micro Seiki DDX-1000 Direct Drive turntable ?
Thanks for your input from a person who actually listens to EMT turntables. You mentioned the 930, but it is unclear to me what you meant by your statement. Surely, the 927 is the best idler drive that EMT ever made, and some would say it’s up the...

Mike, It is interesting to hear from you on this subject.  About 7-10 years ago, you had 3 turntables set up.  One was a tweaked Garrard 301, another was a Rockport Sirius, and the third was a Technics, as I recall, eventually replaced by a Dobbin...
Turntable Mats: Rubber, Felt or Cork.
The TTW mat had some sort of massy metal base with a delrin top surface.
SME V and cartridge spacer
Thanks for the further explanation.

Higher end Koetsu. The tonearm begs for low compliance.

From what I've read (because I have never actually heard any EMT turntable), the ones to own are first and foremost the 927 (see the thread started by Thuchan) and the 950.  The former is a massive idler drive; the latter is direct-drive.  The 927...
Problem with preamp volume control
Using the lowest gain setting on the amplifier may also have subtle benefits for SQ overall.  That is without a doubt the first thing to try, IMO.
Problem with preamp volume control
What Almarg said.  Or live with it.
Clear Audio Virtuoso Ebony v2 Cartridge
Count Basie usually recorded on Roulette. Roulette LPs are notoriously harsh and the treble can make your ears bleed. Sadly, many great Basie recordings are thus practically ruined. Basie with Joe Williams, Basie with Sarah Vaughn.

The important point of information would be what is the gain of your phono stage and what line stage are you using, if you have a separate line stage. It also would not hurt to say what amplifier and speakers you use. Are you hearing distortion? A...
Clear Audio Virtuoso Ebony v2 Cartridge
I am sure the virtuoso is superior to the black bird. So too are many other cartridges. The black bird just isn’t that good.

Delrin if you’re obsessed with matching to vinyl.  TTW used to make them. Colby Lamb can make them. And if you read other posts, what could match the hardness of a vinyl LP better than another LP? At least two others have mentioned that.
Bare cartridge design, Sumiko Blackbird Low Output
Cleaning and cartridge design, except in the case of a few historically interesting designs that tried to sink static charge, have little to do with static so you must be doing something else right.
