Amperex "Bugle Boy" tube compatibility
Dover, Now I should be responsible if someone doesn’t read the entirety of one of my posts? Especially as in this case I have already stated in no uncertain terms that the proposal is a no-go, for two other compelling reasons? I think I have alway...
Amperex "Bugle Boy" tube compatibility
Actually you can run a 12AX7 with a 6V filament supply. In this case it would only require some re-wiring of the tube socket. But that’s the least of the reasons why not to do it.
Amperex "Bugle Boy" tube compatibility
No.12AX7/ECC83 has very different pin out from any of those tubes you have named that are said to be compatible with the 6N11. Things equal to the same thing are equal to each other. Things not equal to the same thing won’t work. Furthermore, the ...
I Have Airborne Feedback And Never Realized It...Till Now
I gotta say I agree with others who think that bolting the shelf to the rack ends up with transmission of energy from the rack.  But the OP is the only one who knows what that looks like.  Maybe there is something about the arrangement that mitiga...
Zyx mistracking issue
This is the first I have read anywhere of a problem endemic to ZYX cartridges in particular, although the internet audio sites are replete with complaints about just about any brand of cartridge you care to cite. I have been happy with my UNIverse...
Say a fella wants to build an SET monoblock based on the 300B..
I think you're in the wrong forum.  You might try the Amp Preamp Forum here on Audiogon, or better yet, go to Audio Asylum and look on SET Asylum or TubeDIY Asylum.  There are more knowledgeable builders there than here, by far.  More advanced is ...
compliance
Yep, any of those super rare and very expensive cartridges (compared to modern equivalents) would be a fine choice, assuming it hasn't died a partial death while sitting in a box under unknown storage conditions for 30 or more years since manufac...
Russian Tube Preamp, No Return, Here I go again
Thanks. Good for Elliott.
Russian Tube Preamp, No Return, Here I go again
But that means it is only just cleared to leave Russia (which is ridiculous), how? By boat?  In that case, having it by your 75th may be realistic.  By air? Then maybe 2-3 weeks.
Zyx mistracking issue
The thread is two years old, so unless the OP is not using vinyl since he started the thread, one must assume he has either moved on or solved his problem.  But he is describing the performance of a cartridge he bought used in 2012.  Which means i...
Replacement Motor for a Vintage Thorens TD 160 Turntable
"330MF" = 330 microfarads.  It's an unfortunate fact that in some cases some companies abbreviated "microfarad" with "MF".  Otherwise, you might think MF means "millifarads", in which case 330MF would equal 330,000 uF, not .33uF.  That would be on...
Vinyl Accessories - Skip It or Buy It!
Soko, Fiber brush cannot hope to remove grunge imbedded in the grooves.  Even a pristine-looking LP will yield "dirt" when properly cleaned.  Your brush is unlikely to get below the lands, and if it does, only minimally. And please describe how a ...
Vinyl Accessories - Skip It or Buy It!
Soko, do you really think your N=2 experiment with the vpi RCM proves anything at all?even mint condition used LPs can have a lot of dirt and dust on them, which can be efficiently removed by a good RCM. If I ever doubt that fact, all I need to do...
Azimuth: how critical is it?
Dover, I could take issue with some elements of your response to my post, Like for example that when you use a meter, you are measuring the sum of any difference in channel balance plus voltage differences due to crosstalk, but it is not important...
Help, No sound from Turntable
Have you tried turning it off, and then turning it on again? Is your preamp set to “phono”?
