Should I replace Denon DL-103R with Dynavector DRT-XV1 mounted
You speak of Mike in the past tense. I hope he’s still with us. Yes?
How good is the Micro Seiki DDX-1000 Direct Drive turntable ?
For others interested in this issue, you might want to see the thread started a few years ago by Halcro regarding problems with direct drive turntables of vintage origin. I wrote in that thread that virtually no vintage turntable is irreparable as...
Powering Old Infinity towers with Peachtree 125 sky-- with analog EQ
You might consider wiring the speakers in series, all else being equal.
Should I replace Denon DL-103R with Dynavector DRT-XV1 mounted
There is no doubt that the DV is superior to the Denon, in this choice scenario, but if the downstream equipment is lacking, then maybe it would be better to upgrade the system first, and THEN look for the DV or similar high end cartridge, in my o...
Should I replace Denon DL-103R with Dynavector DRT-XV1 mounted
esputnix, Tell us about the rest of your system, and you will get better advice.  The SME IV is a good start. A lot of audiophiles believe that a mediocre cartridge on a good tonearm and with good downstream equipment is a better way to go than a ...
All record weights the same ?
I would just say to a neophyte, approach a 900g record weight with caution, regardless of the drive system, especially if your turntable has a lightweight platter, which suggests the bearing may have been designed with low platter mass in mind. Th...
Azimuth "recording"
Mijo, I hope you are joking.
Azimuth "recording"
I hope we can all agree on one point: There is no need to worry about crosstalk with a mono cartridge.  In the case of a mono cartridge, one would only adjust azimuth so as to make sure the stylus is sitting symmetrically in the groove.
Azimuth "recording"
The funny thing is that a few years ago I might have said, and did say, that I would not even use a tonearm that did not provide for azimuth adjustment.  Now I am not so sure, because it is as easy to get it wrong by a tiny amouint using the added...
Azimuth "recording"
Gosh. I guess I am not anal enough for this hobby. MC, in my defense, the OP did say something about using the Fozgometer, etc, which indicates he is aiming for electrical perfection, minimizing crosstalk. So I was just describing my own current s...
Blown tube issue
Russ quoted the bias instructions. "300mV across a 10-ohm resistor".  If he is correct, that would give a plate current of 30mA.  I just checked some EL34 data sheets on-line, and they all confirm what Russ said, that 30mA is very conservative.  M...
Azimuth "recording"
First of all, you need not be concerned about azimuth  adjustment for a mono cartridge. Since the signal is mono, there is no issue of cross talk. The only thing you should worry about is that the stylus tip sits correctly in the groove. For that ...
Help, No sound from Turntable
What Mijostyn said. Fuses mostly do show a visible sign that they are blown, but you need to know what to look for. The most certain way to check the fuse is to check whether there is any resistance from one end to the other. A blown fuse will sho...
Blown tube issue
What everyone else said. Also, if you bought the amps used with used tubes installed, it may not be unusual at all to have lost two tubes over a period of 1.5 years. The fact that you do not use the amps so much is neither here nor there. Tubes ar...
Is this Cartridge Alignment good?
What was already said but check pivot to spindle distance.
