Refurbished / Re-tipped Cartridges - Are they worth Buying? Mijo, I was under the impression that these re-tippers buy their cantilevers with various styli pre-mounted, for installation on our various cartridges. In other words, I would not have thought the amount of fastener and its placement are choices ...
Refurbished / Re-tipped Cartridges - Are they worth Buying? Lalitk, Thank you for your kind words. I do nothing now, except occasionally I consult; I am retired. Why I can spend so much time on this forum. Too much. Although I trained clinically in internal medicine and infectious disease, my career was ...
Step Up Transformers….Are they Worth the Trouble? My MC2000 cantilever and stylus are OEM, according to the seller. And the assembly looks like on-line photos of OEM.
Refurbished / Re-tipped Cartridges - Are they worth Buying? Inagroove, if you saw glue covering the stylus tip, then there’s no doubt you’re correct, and you were justified if you sent the cartridge back for a re-retip. My Grace Ruby was retipped with sapphire/OCL by SS, and it has a disconcertingly large ...

Refurbished / Re-tipped Cartridges - Are they worth Buying? Inagroove, you have some expertise that allows you to judge the proper amount of glue used to fasten a stylus to a cantilever? Did you also look at zenith angle, when you examined that cartridge under magnification? You might be right about the gl...
Anyone ever listened to a vintage Victor Laboratory X1 cartridge Chakster lives?!!! Viva Chakster!
Refurbished / Re-tipped Cartridges - Are they worth Buying? lalitk, You don't need the original designer to replace the cantilever/stylus assembly with parts identical in physical characteristics to those of the original. The question is whether such parts are still available, if the cartridge is very old...
Refurbished / Re-tipped Cartridges - Are they worth Buying? “Listening” is a worthless measure of whether a retipped cartridge resembles its original self in the first place. One can at best ascertain that the retip is pleasing in the here and now. Aural memory simply isn’t that good. At best one can hope ...
Step Up Transformers….Are they Worth the Trouble? Raul, You are always right, but I do own and listen to the MC2000, and it does have a press-fitted stylus on its aluminum cantilever. Lalitk, Do I understand you to say that you are going to use an EMIA SUT or a "transimpedance" phono stage (hate...
FEZZ audio Like I said, the dealer may be Mother Theresa, but if Fezz is driving a pair of KT88s with a single 12AX7, that makes me wonder about how it might sound. Normally you would want to have a separate driver stage if the input tube is a 12AX7, because...
Audiomods Is A Great Company What’s gonna make the native top plate of the MK “ring”? I mean where would the energy come from if you have good footers on the TT?
New Cartridge advice You might think about compliance as well as “weight”. A lightweight cartridge can have low compliance and would work best with a high effective mass tonearm. Conversely a heavyweight cartridge can have high compliance, etc.
Audiomods Is A Great Company Mijo, That's a poor man's Dohmann. Where are you going to mount the Millenium motor?
FEZZ audio If the channels can be paralleled, that would give 90W per side, which is overkill for your 92db speakers. But of course that depends upon what the efficiency curve of your speakers really looks like, and more power never hurts. (The 92db rating o... |
