Acos Lustre GST-1 ...... YAY or NAY. ..... (has Removable Headshell AND VTA on the FLY). I bet you could sell the TT alone for nearly $500 and have the tonearm nearly for free. So it's something to do, if YOU want the tonearm. Otherwise, there is some risk and bother for possibly no gain.
A new way of adjusting anti skate! My remaining question about Mijostyn's method is whether the typical Chinese-made digital VTF gauge is accurate when used in the vertical, rather than the horizontal orientation. I am trying to figure out how one would test for that. Or maybe Mi...
A new way of adjusting anti skate! Luisma, What is the method with the HFN test LP?
Acos Lustre GST-1 ...... YAY or NAY. ..... (has Removable Headshell AND VTA on the FLY). This is not a question of great pith and moment for very many of us. Just do it.
A new way of adjusting anti skate! Dover, no pun intended, I’m using two small nuts that each weigh ~1g, tucked as close to the crotch of the TP AS mechanism as possible, for the MMC1. The OEM AS weight weighs 5g.Thanks for the clear explanation of what Mijo probably does. I’ll giv...
Turntable upgrade recommendations: SME vs AMG vs Technics vs other Mijo, If I had a 10-inch bar, I would consider making porn movies. But I don’t want to store my meat in a vacuum. We had excellent take-out Chinese food last night at the home of a close friend. Tomic, Thank you for the compliment re the Beveridg...
A new way of adjusting anti skate! I was re-reading this thread, just because I have recently been wrestling with setting AS for a very low VTF, recommended 1.0g, for my B&O MMC1. Mounted on my Triplanar. To Mijostyn: I would like to measure AS by your method, but just from rea...
A new way of adjusting anti skate! Nah! But MC, your avatar Einstein said something to the effect that one should first choose the simplest hypothesis to explain an observation, but not one that is “too simple”. We both agree that there is a skating force and that we need a little ...
Turntable upgrade recommendations: SME vs AMG vs Technics vs other I really don’t know how anyone can evaluate such a co-dependent item as a tonearm out of the context of one’s own system or at least a system with which one is intimately familiar. But hey… Listening to Eartha Kitt sing “Santa Baby”. Just sublime.
What'd You Get For Xmas? I did not get my Festivus pole up in time, so no presents but I am airing my grievances.
Turntable upgrade recommendations: SME vs AMG vs Technics vs other Mike, you didn’t lower the SPL around your TT. You identified some effective bandaids for the existing high SPL. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Happy holiday to all. I gotta go dig up my copy of Eartha Kitt singing “Santa Baby”. It’s...
Does a cartridge that has been in storage for an extended period need play time… Some other advice not related to your question: the input impedance of your phono stage should ideally be 10X or more greater than the cartridge’s internal impedance.
A new way of adjusting anti skate! Where does the 10% rule come from? I’ve heard it too, but I don’t know where or when. Let’s keep in mind also that there is no one value of AS that is correct at all times for all recordings. Ergo the analogy to aligning the suspension of an autom...
Turntable upgrade recommendations: SME vs AMG vs Technics vs other Funny story. To prove in principle that my contention he needed more gain in order to soothe his itch, I lent the owner of the Ypsi my own 25-year-old Quicksilver phonolinepreamp which is worth maybe $1200. I hooked it up in his system so the sig...
Turntable upgrade recommendations: SME vs AMG vs Technics vs other I’ve heard the Ypsilon in a system with which I was quite familiar, and I thought it was superb, but in comparison to other very expensive phono stages, one must keep in mind that it makes only 39db of gain. If you own a high end LOMC cartridge yo... |
